Guest guest
Hey everyone, I know this has been asked before, but does anyone know of any females who where on Gleevec and got pregnant???? Seems the storke wants to visit my house, and I want to know if there are any success stories out there, all I am hearing is gloom and doom! Thanks, Amy B. Guest guest
Amy, discontinue taking your gleevec pill immediately and call your oncologist!!! There are success stories out there of people who stopped taking gleevec after finding out they were pg and didn't take it again until after the baby was born. I don't think there are any of people who continued to take gleevec. Just make sure to get off of the gleevec ASAP and talk to your onc about other treatments (I've heard you are supposed to stay off everything and get tested monthly and if your WBC rises you get on interferon until delivery). Congrats, best of luck!!! I'm so happy for you!!! :} [ ] Pregnancy and Gleevec Hey everyone, I know this has been asked before, but does anyone know of any females who where on Gleevec and got pregnant???? Guest guest
Hello Amy My name is and I am 25 years old, my doctor advised me not to get pregnant while on Gleevec. You need to talk to she is pregant but she got off Gleevec until the baby is born. She is due in August and so far so good. Check out her Blog. http://www.glamour.com/lifestyle/blogs/editor > > Hey everyone, I know this has been asked before, but does anyone know > of any females who where on Gleevec and got pregnant???? Guest guest
Hi Amy, posted this on her blog. As you can see, the jury is not out on whether to stop Gleevec before conceiving or not. There have been many healthy babies born after conceiving on Gleevec. " OK, I got a bunch of work cleared off my desk yesterday and am now ready to talk about the Portland trip-sorry for the delay. So the main reason we were there was to discuss my options for having a baby. The biggest development is that Dr. Mauro (and the colleagues he polled) feels like I can try to conceive while still on Gleevec, the drug that keeps me in remission. I'd go off the second I find out I'm pregnant, which would only be around 10-14 days post conception-not long enough to be too worried about the exposure to Gleevec (there's reason to believe it could potentially cause birth defects). For a while we were considering stopping the Gleevec before trying to conceive, which would have put a lot of pressure on us to get pregnant right away and would have caused some serious stress if it took me a while. I feel like the new plan is the most " normal " way to do it while minimizing risk to me and the baby. Guest guest
Amy, My situation is not exactly like yours. I found out that i was pregnant with twins and had CML at the same time.. I never started Gleevec until a month after my girls were born. I did have to go to the doctor every week to have my counts checked to make sure they weren't get too high.. If they were getting too high they would do leukopherisis (?spelling) on me.. It wasn't an easy procedure but hey i got through it.. I am on Sprycel now because i didn't respond to Gleevec.. Good luck! These next couple of weeks with be tough but you will get through it!! Guest guest
Hello Amy Congrats, and I hope you the best. I hope you and your baby lots of health and happiness. Looks like one day I might be able to have my own children after all. My husband and I are looking into adoption but I would like to try to have our own first. > > Thanks to everyone that responded.
