Guest guest
I know of several cases, myself included, where the man took Gleevec and the woman became pregnant and there were no problems at all. My husband did not stop Gleevec and we had a healthy baby girl who is now almost 2. Yes, the handout you get when you take Gleevec does say that it " may " cause sterility in men. However, it is not a definite. The second sentence in the handout you attached, " Imatinib may damage sperm and may harm the baby if used during pregnancy, " well, I believe this sentence is not written very well. I'm guessing that they were trying to say pretty much the same thing they said the first time, in that it may cause sterility, and that the second part of that is for women who take Gleevec (that it could harm the baby they are carrying). Anyway, from everything that I've learned, women are not supposed to take Gleevec while pregnant. As for men, basically, if you are able to get your partner pregnant, then Gleevec did not make you sterile. That's pretty much the bottom line. Dana Wife to , dx 4/4/03 [ ] Gleevec effects on fathering children I recently found the following link which warns against taking Gleevec if trying to impregnate because it can damage the sperm. Does anyone have any additional insights on men taking gleevec and trying to father a child. I know there has been a lot of discussion so far about women getting pregnanty while on Gleevec. http://www.bccancer .bc.ca/NR/ rdonlyres/ 15D25940- F953-4DBD- 9760-A7495EA2E77 4/19391/Imatinib Handout_23Nov06. pdf
