Guest guest
I too was told Monday I had reached hematological remission. Only 6 weeks on Gleevec. I was sure surprised. I told my Dr, " well, you know I AM an over-achiever! " He has a pretty good sense of humor. BTW, are there any of you in the Florida panhandle area, or maybe south Alabama? I am near Pensacola. Was just curious if maybe anyone had the same oncologist as I do. Regards, Chris ************************************** See what's free at http://www.aol.com. Guest guest
The next step will be to reach CCR or a Complete Cytogenic Response. At diagnosis time you are usually 100% Philadelphia Chromosome positive (pH+). The testing for pH+ is usually done every 3 months. You want to achieve CCR within 12 months of starting Gleevec. A good interim goal is to reach MCR or a Major Cytogenic Response. A pH+ value of less than 35%. I hope I haven't lost you with all this. To really complicate matters, there are 3 different tests that can be used to measure the pH+. BMB, FISH and PCR. Make sure that you get a copy of each test result. It will make it very easy to follow your own progress. Guest guest
I am from the Florida Panhandle -- Crestview. I use an oncologist in Pensacola, Dr. Tann. I also go to M.D. in Houston, Texas and see Dr. Ktargarin. (I don't think I spelled this correctly.) I was diagnosed with CML November, 2002 and have been on Gleevec since December, 2002. I have reached cytogenetic remission but not molecular remission. Can I get your email? Sincerely, letitbe@... wrote: I too was told Monday I had reached hematological remission. Guest guest
Your doctor will decide which test he needs to run. Once you get to the CCR level of response, you will need to do the PCR test in order to measure any change. The BMB and FISH tests are not as sensitive as the PCR test. I would ask him to start doing the PCR test early so that you will have a value to compare it to once you have reached CCR.
