Oh , I'm so Sorry!!! I know a tooth can hurt so much :o( Take your pain meds and give it a few days, it might get better!!! If you have Fibro or CFS, then talk to the dentist before you have any root canal done! They don't always work for us, and that is a lot of money to have to throw away and turn around and get it pulled after all :o( Try and rest now... Sleep if you can.

What kind of pain is it? When my tooth went 'ballistic' (abscessed) on Christmas Eve two years ago, it was shooting pains from my jaw up through my neck and into my head...Couldn't lay down at all, cause the blood would rush to my head, thus my teeth, and cause it to get worse. I'm not sure what tooth it is, but you *must* eat something! A milk shake through a straw, some room temp. broth or soup (nothing with something that'll get stuck in a straw!)

I remember the only thing the pain meds did was let me enter a 'daze' for a few minutes at a time, that's how I got the little rest I did. What you need now are antibiotics, pain meds so you can at least doze, liquids, food and lots of rest, as much as you can get anyway. If the tooth does need an r/c, its more than likely one big 'germ' right now, that's why you need the anti's...Call the dentist ASAP, s/he should have a service of some type where you can leave a message and they'll get back to you. I hope you've done all this already....

I remember I talked to the dentist on Christmas Eve and Christmas, he sent 'scriptions for anti's (had me start by taking a double dose to get it into my system quickly) and pain meds, then told me to call the office the day after Christmas to be fitted in. Well, I did that but the receptionist said she couldn't fit me in until Jan 4th!!!!!!! Can you IMAGINE!!!! So, I said 'fidge that shut,' waited until the office had closed, called his service (which goes directly to his pager and he's *very* good at answering any call that comes in cause it has to be an emergency!) I told him what the receptionist had said, he told me to call back in the morning and the problem would be fixed! I did, and she fit me in that afternoon! That's when he started the r/c, didn't finish it until after new years (wouldn't you know it, new years 2000 and I couldn't toast the new year! lol and I was in agony!) But the swelling had gone down, the pain had lessened soooooooo much and I felt so much better...That's when I stopped *having* to take a valuim to get to the dentist, cause I couldn't find anyone to drive me and I HAD to go!

OK, this is a big long winded...sowwy! Hope you feel better sooner! Everyone on the list has teeth and probably have gone through this or similar, so EVERYONE is rooting for you! (no pun intended! :X)

Deb,

Well...the whole story is:

About a month ago, a filling fell out of my #3 tooth (upper right molar, third from the back) and was lodged in between my number 3 and 4 teeth. I couldn't get it out. It stopped bothering me, I think I got used to it. Then a few days ago, my #3 tooth broke in half. The dentist said that it looked like someone drilled a hole in my tooth and ripped half of it off. I thought that when the tooth broke that I was in a lot of pain...oh, it got worse. He fit me in the next day (very surprising) and drilled it, and said on the Xray it didn't look too close to the nerve, but upon seeing the actual nerve exposed, I guess it was close, huh? He filled the nerve part with this rubber stuff, then molded a tooth for me out of silver filling material. After the Novocain wore off, then it hurt like hell. It was a constant throbbing pain, with a feeling of an electrical shock through the middle of my tooth about every minute or so. I still can't eat, and even just my saliva touching the tooth is very painful. I can't drink even lukewarm water. He called this morning, but I had finally gotten to sleep and didn't answer the phone. He says that my tooth may just be sensitive from the filling, but that it is abscessed. He told me to use my water pick and spray Listerine on it. There is also some over the counter toothache medicine that will help, but it is hard to find (so he says). I'm not really in the mood to go hunting for it, and I am really surprised that the Vicodin isn't helping AT ALL! I take two every four hours, and it doesn't give any relief. I guess one good thing...my hips don't hurt so bad now...my teeth do! I hope he is right, that the pain should lessen within the next day or so. I really am very hungry, but don't want to attempt to eat, it makes me hurt more. As it is, to take my pills, I have to fill a straw with water and stick it down my throat to bypass the tooth, and the pills are making me sick from taking them on an empty stomach. I think I'll try some warm ensure today, using the same straw method. I have to get something in my stomach. I'll keep you all posted on how I feel.

Hugs,

Chelle,

Funny you should mention that! The medicine that the doctor told me to find is made of clove oil. It has helped some, although you do want to avoid getting it on your tounge, very strong stuff!
