Guest guest Posted August 19, 2005 Report Share Posted August 19, 2005 Red Ribbon Network The Red Ribbon Network, New Delhi met on the 9th of August 2003 at YMCA Tourist, New Delhi with representatives from various agencies who are working in response to HIV/AIDS in Delhi. Its purpose is to articulate and translate into action Christian perspectives and responses in HIV/AIDS issues through collective action of Christian Organisations in Delhi and to be a platform for reaching out to people living with HIV/AIDS. The objectives of the network are as follows: 1. To create increased awareness and bring about an attitudinal and behavioural changes among the members and leaders of the Churches and all sections of society with regards to HIV/AIDS. 2. To generate compassionate response in every Church and congregation towards HIV/AIDS collectively by the Christian agencies and Churches (Red Ribbon Network members) in Delhi. 3. Collaborations and joint ventures (on HIV/AIDS and related issues) wherever possible, among the network members avoiding duplications 4. Frequent interactions/meetings among the members and exchange of information on HIV/AIDS and related issues 5. Joint efforts for advocacy and lobbying with government/s and international agencies for gathering information (on HIV/AIDS and related issues) and dissemination of the same to other Christian agencies in Delhi and other parts of the country through website and e-mails. The members present discussed issues such as: 1.Going beyond the issues of Condom or Homosexuality and moving ahead to reach out 2.Forming of consortiums to strengthen existing services. 3.Networking and gaining experience from other secular networks. 4.Caring of Carers: For Medicos and Para-medics 5.Caring of Carers: For family members providing support 6.Learning's on response and caring for People Living with HIV/AIDS was shared by members present in the meeting. Rev. Dr. Ban Makan, Executive Director of Christian AIDS National Alliance, chaired the meeting. The group proposed to conduct a pre-World AIDS Day advocacy program to sensitive the Church leadership in India.
