Guest guest
TRAINING OF TRAINER (TOT) WORKSHOP FOR CLINICIANS: HEALTH ISSUES OF MEN WHO HAVE SEX WITH MEN (MSM) AND HIJRAS The Humsafar Trust, Mumbai, is organizing a Training of Trainers (TOT) workshop to intensively train a selected group of clinicians on the issues of MSM and Hijras from Sep 22 to 24, 2005 in Mumbai. Why this Training of Trainer course? In India, like most parts of the world, men who have sex with men (MSM) and Hijras (male-to-female transgender persons) face barriers in accessing quality non-judgmental health care services. Ignorance of sexuality issues and negative attitude among health care providers affect the quality of care provided to these marginalized groups. Thus there is an urgent need to train health care providers on the distinct health care needs of MSM and Hijras. This is especially important in the context of the lack of formal training on these topics in medical schools. There is a crucial need to ask about the same-sex/bisexual behaviors of males who are seen in the clinical settings to educate them about HIV risk and safer sex and also to provide them appropriate sexual health care. Objectives of the TOT workshop: To enable a selected group of clinicians to conduct trainings for health care providers on the health needs of MSM and Hijras. Workshop Facilitators/Resource persons: The facilitators of this TOT workshop include Dr. Venkatesan Chakrapani, M.D., Mr. Ashok Row Kavi, The Humsafar Trust, and Ms. Paige Passano, PSI Intended participants: Clinicians with an interest and commitment in training other clinicians on the health issues of MSM and Hijras.
