Guest guest
Sticking to the BFL plan ... Eating Clean I have seen a couple of you guys talking about " eating clean " What does this mean? Noelle
Guest guest
In a nutshell it means no processed foods. That encompasses anything premanufactured so at first shopping is challenging if you are used to eating out of a box. Start with the foods listed on the BFL book's authorized list then expand from there once you get the hang of what clean eating includes. Using the authorized list takes the guesswork out of the eating part so that it doesn't become too overwhelming. For me it means lots of chicken breast, lean beef, tuna and other seafood, egg whites, cottage cheese, oatmeal, Kashi, yogurt, milk, protein shakes, powders, and bars, and lots of fresh veggies and at least one fruit serving a day. No honey buns, biscuits, or frozen casseroles as they are all processed foods. No commercial baked goods. No sausage or bacon. No chips or processed breakfast cereal (some are ok). And the list goes on. So start with the BFL list and go from there. Hope this helps. Stasia
Guest guest
Thanks! OH! I did the water displacement thing last night to see exactly what size my portions should be and I got a 1/2 a cup. I told my husband, I can't eat a 1/2 cup of anything. I can do a cup, but 1/2. GEE, that is hardly no food. Guest guest
It does Stasia, thanks. How long have you been doing BFL? Noelle Re: Eating Clean In a nutshell it means no processed foods. Guest guest
And now, after all this clean eating talk my girlfriend's parents called and invited me for dinner at Cracker Barrel where the specialty is biscuits and gravy. Guess they'll have baked or broiled chicken and I can choose a salad or something from the veggie list that isn't grease laden or fried. I wasn't expecting this challenge today....I had everything all planned out and " meal anxiety " strikes. Stasia
Guest guest
If you're eating six meals a day and getting your servings of healthy fats, you should be fine with 1/2 cup servings. When I put 1/2 cup of rice on my plate, it looks like so much more and if I eat Udo's oil, peanut butter or whatever, my appetite is satisfied. You will get hungry between meals before the next one, but that just means your metabolism is revving up. Astra > Thanks! > OH! Guest guest
I feel your pain! My husband loves to go to the deer camp on the weekends, even in the off season, beer drinking and cooking is what they do best and he asked me to go tomorrow. I said you know I cant drink ANYMORE period and I can't be around all that food, you go on ahead. Then in the sweetest voice, he said but Sunday you can eat. All this after he went to all my favorite lunch time eat places this week, Pizza Inn, Chinese, you name it. I told him, Sunday I'll eat, probably Pizza Inn for lunch and Chinese for supper:) Noelle Re: Eating Clean And now, after all this clean eating talk my girlfriend's parents called and invited me for dinner at Cracker Barrel where the specialty is biscuits and gravy. Guest guest
I bet they have a nice grilled fish there and you can get salad and rice as a side. Stay away from those rolls and corn bread muffins!! Guest guest
What is Udo's Oil? I don't have real hunger pains....I just get the feeling that it is time for my next meal. Does that really mean that my metabolism is getting higher? I used to measure my food to a T when I was doing lowfat dieting, but when you get out of the habit and you start back it is so hard. Guest guest
I did it twice. I found a cup that I could fit my hand in and then filled it with water, put it in a bowl and put my hand in and what spilled out was a 1/2 a cup. Did I do it wrong? PLEASE say I did. Guest guest
Doncha just hate when that happens? I really hate going out to eat and I do it a lot. I tried to only make plans on free days but that ain't gonna work. lol Enjoy yourself Stasia ... you can find stuff at Crackerbarrel - enjoy the company! Guest guest
1/2 cup sometimes sounds less than it really is ... depends on what you're eating with it. lol Rita Eating Clean > > > I have seen a couple of you guys talking about " eating clean " > What does this mean? > Noelle > > >
Guest guest
lmao @ Jill! Guest guest
1/2 cup is less to me on anything. Compared to eating a whole package of spaghetti, I guess it would be. I'm gonna try it. I may just have to have a whole cup. If you have a whole cup of broccoli that is only 45 calories. Today I have had a little over a thousand calories and have not had my 6th meal yet. The only thing I had a half a cup of was spaghetti. I know this meal planning is going to be trial and error. Guest guest
No but I think you'll do fine ... you'll see how it goes. Add lots of veggies to whatever you're having and I'll bet it'll be enough. Portion control for all of us is the key ... and its amazing how little will fill you up. It always surprises me when I see I'm having a 1/4 or 1/2 cup of rice. It looks so little to me but then I add those veggies and my protein and I'm FULL! Guest guest
you can have as much broccoli as you can stand ... these measurements only apply to proteins and carbs. VEGGIES ARE GOOD!!! Guest guest
What a relief. I love Broccoli thank god! I would really like to see what some of you guys' menus look like if you don't mind sharing. As I mentioned earlier in the week, I am trying to do my mini meals with real food instead of the shakes and bars. I have been working all this week trying to get the calories, carbs and proteins correct. It's kind of tough, but I think today has been a good day for me. Guest guest
Here's one of mine: Meal 1: Egg Whites/Oatmeal scrambled together Meal 2: Cottage Cheese/apple Meal 3: Chicken salad with brussels sprouts & zucchini Meal 4: Whey Protein Powder shake with 1/2 banana Meal 5: Salmon, zucchini, broccoli and small side salad - romaine lettuce/tomatoes with balsamic vinegar Meal 6: Snackin Jello (recipe on www.mrs.bishwitskitchen.com ) BTW - I just had the tuna in water in the package with an apple and it was really delicious! I'm going to the store now to get some more and I realized I need more cottage cheese too. lol Hope this helped Noelle. Guest guest
" Metabolism is revving up " - is that what starving means??!!! lol I cut my portions down yesterday (I think I've been eating more than I should as I've been eyeballing things and you know what that means), and I cut back on carbs yesterday as well, and today I've been starving all day - even shortly after a meal. I'm thinking this is a good sign....?? My energy has been about the same (just average - I really haven't noticed much of an increase in energy since starting) though. Guest guest
Kim - personally I think it may mean you aren't eating enough! I'm waiting to hear what our " pro's " think ... Sounds to me like maybe you cut down too much. Rita Eating Clean > > > I have seen a couple of you guys talking about " eating clean " > What does this mean? > Noelle > > >
Guest guest
Hmmmm, maybe... I didn't cut down too drastically, just decided to actually measure my food for a change, so I made sure to keep nothing to more than 3/4 of a cup. I probably was just overdosing before and didn't know it! I didn't have a carb for " dinner " last night though, just had a chicken stir fry with lots of veggies, but I did have protein pudding for just before bed (not that that's packed with calories though!).
