Guest guest Posted May 12, 2005 Report Share Posted May 12, 2005 Job Announcement: HIV/AIDS Nurse Specialist Chennai, India The International Training and Education Center on HIV (I-TECH) was established in 2002 by the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) in collaboration with the U. S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). I-TECH promotes activities that increase human capacity for providing HIV/AIDS clinical care and support through the development of health care worker training systems that are locally-determined, optimally resourced, highly responsive and self-sustaining in countries and regions hardest hit by the AIDS epidemic. In India, I-TECH is working in collaboration with CDC-GAP and the Government of Tamil Nadu to develop, implement and evaluate a Center of Excellence on HIV/AIDS Clinical Training at the Government Hospital of Thoracic Medicine (also known as Tambaram Hospital and GHTM) in Chennai. The initiative is intended to improve quality of patient care and increase capacity for providing HIV/AIDS care and treatment in Tamil Nadu. I-TECH is actively engaged at this time in developing the Tambaram Curriculum, which includes teaching modules on all aspects of clinical management of HIV and AIDS and makes innovative use of video (i.e., case studies and patient profiles) for teaching and evaluation purposes. I-TECH is also working in Salem and Pune, India, with a CDC-GAP partner, Project Concern International, to develop a training program and support materials for providing home-based care. One special area of focus for clinical training is to increase the capacity of nurses to provide HIV/AIDS care and clinical training. Primary duties include the following: In coordination with ITECH Nurse Consultant and other staff, continue development of training program at GHTM to enhance and expand the role of nurses in multidisciplinary HIV/AIDS care and treatment In coordination with ITECH Nurse Consultant and other staff, develop Nursing Initiative that will include the establishment of a Continuing Education and Training program for GHTM nurses including advanced training in women’s HIV/AIDS health care Advise and support strategic issues/plans that involve nursing/clinical training and education in HIV/AIDS care Work with I-TECH Program Manager and Training Coordinators to assess and identify specific country/regional training and technical assistance needs for nurses Develop curriculum and training materials and adapt to other regional contexts, as needed Conduct in country trainings targeting nurses, community health workers and other multidisciplinary staff Develop plans to build relationships between hospital nursing care and community/home based care systems Develop and provide clinical review of multidisciplinary educational materials and patient education materials Establish I-TECH awareness and presence by networking with nursing/clinical associations such as schools of nursing, International Council of Nurses (ICN), local NGOs and other HIV/AIDS support organizations to build and strengthen relationships Identify, screen and recruit nurses to participate in I-TECH local and regional training activities Train and monitor resource persons on the use of I-TECH curricula and on participator training methods Represent I-TECH at various planning and consultation meetings Any other responsibilities and activities that may support HIV nurses training both locally and state wide Other Duties as assigned by the India Project Manager and I-TECH Nurse Consultant Minimum Qualifications: BSN and teaching or training experience Curriculum development experience, HIV/AIDS experience Fluency in Tamil and English – reading, writing, speaking Computer skills and familiarity with MSWord and PowerPoint Desired Qualifications: MSN prepared nurse Hours and Location: Monday-Friday, 9-5 (hours may be longer on days that trainings take place). Some Saturdays required with advance notice. Position will be housed at Tambaram, but some travel required to conduct trainings in other areas of Tamil Nadu. Salary: Commensurate with experience.
