Guest guest
Arta, Please check with your own Dr. I think it always makes sense to get a baseline of your heart's performance. As well, please be careful of such postings as they can be marketing related. The best way for a new drug to get customers is to cause Fear Uncertainty and Doubt (FUD) in the incumbent drug. We dont want any of that as the best way to live a long happy life with CML is to make use of each line of therapy for as long as it works for you. I see that has " maxmizing the run way " . I have grown into a happy and " healthy " skeptic of many things. One thing I am sure is that 99.999% of the contributions made here on this chat board are made for the common goal of helping and healing! Love and Mercy! Guest guest
Arta, technically this report is true. However, its a lab study and fortunately does not reflect real life this was not put out by any company. I'm not sure what your implying. The link is basically one of the many media reports that came out last year regarding an article in Nature Medicine that observed a possible mechanism between Gleevec and Congestive Heart Failure. The authors had noted that CHF can be seen in CML patients taking Gleevec and then did some studies in animals that suggested that the ABL kinase is normally active in Heart cells and that perhaps the drug could harm the heart. Quite an uproar at the time. But basically many CML experts had noted that they had never or perhaps only rarely ever seen a case of CHF in many years with Gleevec. A recent review was just reported from MD in Houston. They looked back at 1276 CML patients treated with Gleevec that had been seen there and could only find CHF in 22 patients (1.8%). These 22 patients all had some other medical conditions that may by themselves have caused the CHF. All in all it seems to be a case of where a lab study does not actually equate with real life experience. As suggested, a baseline analysis of Heart function may be helpful but I would say more important if the patient had some other medical conditions that can cause CHF. > > > Hi to all, > > > > I was just wondering whether you have read this > > article and whether someone of you has experienced > > any heart issues from Gleevec. > > > > > > > http://www.pharmaceutical-business-review.com/article_feature.asp? guid=448181CE-FEC1-4A2F-8E88-B394B9BDDBF5 > > > > All the best! > > Arta > > Dx: Jan/07 > > Gleevec 400 mg > > > > > > > > --------------------------------- > > Ahhh...imagining that irresistible " new car " smell? > > Check outnew cars at Autos. > > > > [Non-text portions of this message have been > > removed] > > > > > > > __________________________________________________ >
Guest guest
I just want to add that the number of patients found in the MD review was slightly less than would have been expected from the normal population of patients of the same age. It's important for everyone to remember that people can get other diseases and health problems while on Gleevec that aren't related to Gleevec. I've seen too many people chalking things up to side effects of Gleevec and ignoring potential problems because they convince themselves it's a Gleevec side effect.
