Guest guest
Hi Group, I know this sounds like a silly question but has anyone on Sprycel had trouble with the sensations of hands and feet falling asleep. It is mostly at night and does go away with movement. I see Dr. next week but this is weird feeling. Carolyn
Guest guest
Carolyn, I am not on Sprycel, but I am on gleevec and I have been experiencing the exact same thing for about the past 4 months. It's very annoying, but like you stated, it does go away with movement. Guest guest
Hi Carolyn, I have been taking Sprycel for about 2 weeks now and the only side effects I have had was a funny taste in my mouth...which has since gone away and a mild headache about 3 hours after taking my Sprycel dose. I switched to taking the Sprycel before I go to bed and that fixed that problem. Other than those two things Sprycel has been great. To be honest I did not tolerate the 8oo mg dose of Gleevec that my dr had me on. If I wasn't on the toilet, I was fighting bad muscle crapmping and nausea not to mention the worsening of the mild insomnia I have lawys had. Even with sleeping medication I was lucky to get 4 hours sleep. I was in pretty rough shape both physically and mentally. I had given up. Then along came Sprycel. I had no real expectation for this new 'miracle' drug except hoping it had lesser side effects than the Gleevec. As I stated earlier...it's been almost 2 weeks and all I can say is Thank God for Sprycel. It has given me back my hope. I feel great. No more diarrhea, muscle cramping, nausea and I am sleeping about 8 hours with the sleeping medication. My weight is slowly starting to climb back to normal now that the nausea and diarrhea are gone. I also thank god for the BMS researchers who developed the drug, my case worker at the Pathways program and Cheryl Ann Simoneau from the Canadian CML Society who helped ensure that I was able to begin my therapy on time. Just hang in thee Carolyn and you may find that the tingling sensation subsides once your body gets adjusted to the Sprycel. Guest guest
I also have that 'falling asleep thing' going on. Very annoying indeed -- I'm on Gleevec. chris in minn [ ] Re: reaction to sprycel Carolyn, I am not on Sprycel, but I am on gleevec and I have been experiencing the exact same thing for about the past 4 months. With Sprycel, a known but kind of rare side effect is peripheral neuropathy. For me it is mostly in my toes, tops of feet....feels like they are a bit numb....more when I am sitting still, like a longer drive. Same thing could happen in your hands. I am on 100mg Sprycel and my onc is Dr. Druker. I was his first Sprycel patient with this problem, so it is not real common. My naturopath told me how to treat it......and Dr. D approved, as did his special pharmacist (who knows about drug interactions with or special drugs). I treat it with alpha lipoic acid....a 300 mg capsule once a day, with meals. (you could also take 150mg twice a day). It is acid, so kind of hard on the stomach...but this is a known treatment for peripheral neuropathy. I could see a difference right away. An alternate treatment is a combination of 50% chamomile and 50% oat straw (aveno) tea....you would get fresh herbs and steep them. Doing this might be enough for you....maybe even just the chamomile. Hope this answers this question for you. C.
