Guest guest
Jane- You have no worries with Dr. Talpaz. I have heard he is one of the best. Definitely on top of CML. From a patient who has had a bone marrow without sedation, I would NEVER have one without it again. This of course was my opinion. I had a horrific experience and would never consider it again. I swore I would never have another one. I have since had 4 others, with mild sedation of valium and I don't even remember them. Of course, I switched doctors after the first one and now see a specialist in Dr. Drukers office. (Dr. Mauro). I think it all depends on the skill of the doctor but you will be in great hands with Dr. Talpaz. The betterthe CML doctor, the better their technique for the biopsy. Best wishes and think positive! Guest guest
Jane: I had a similar terrible experience with Bone Marrow biopsy at Moffit center in Tampa where they let their practitioner nurses do the procedures without sedation. She hit a nerve which make me quit the procedures suffering from severe pain.. I couldn't move for several hours at the hospital. They ran all kind of tests and made sure no damage but I am still experiencing local pain after three weeks, I am planning to change my visit to a different doctor. If any one know a good specialist to see in Florida for bone marrow biopsy please advise. I will never have another one without sedation. My problem know how to convince my insurance to change doctors. Guest guest
Dear Jane: I think most of us have had good and bad ones. My first was at Shands Hospital in Gainesville, Florida and they had to insert the needle four times for finally find a good spot. Without medication, I screamed like a banshee (No , I did not use any expletives because at the time, I was in too much pain to remember any). That spot hurt for over a year afterward. Most of my others ones have been using the same technician at MD , who makes it as un-painful as possible. However, last March when I made a visit, he was on vacation and I had someone else. This one was quite painful and as I got up to leave I asked her how long she had been performing aspirations and biopsies, to which she replied " Since Monday " and this was on a Thursday. At MD , if you are willing to wait, you can request a certain person do your BMB. I had a long time patient tell me who to ask for and I am willing to do the same for others, if you need advice. I am sure others patients of other facilities will do the same. Guest guest
Hey, Matt. I'm impressed that you were able to suppress your potty- mouth. I'm not sure I could make the same claim after being poked four times. I've only ever had one BMA -- without any sedative or anasthesia (I didn't even know it was an option) -- and I distinctly remember breaking out into a cold sweat all over my body as the needle worked its way into my bone. I'm sorry they made you a guinea pig over at . I think it's funny that you asked the woman how long she'd been performing the procedure -- did she know why you were asking, or did you spare her feelings? Hope you're well, Matt. Warm regards. > > > > Dear Jane: > > I think most of us have had good and bad ones. Guest guest
>, I am concerned about what you said about Moffit. I am suppose to have one there in October. Dr. Pinella said I would be sedated. In ville I have a Dr. that only numbs me and I do fine. He is very good. What Dr. are you seeing at Moffit? The one I am seeing is new. I had Dr. Bhalla until he left. I wasn't very happy with him. He never listened to me. But I do like Pinella. I am only seen him once. >. Guest guest
Hi Joan. I just came back from my trip and found your e-mail. If you are going to Moffit in Tampa, I 'll tell you who did the test. I am with Dr. List but he normally don't do the Bone Marrow Biopsy Test. There are 3 practition nurses carry on the procedures. If you need more information let me know.
