Guest guest
Dear Bill, I have a similar brown discoloration on my cheek -- like a small patch of tanned skin that doesn't fade. It showed up last summer and has remained. I have no idea if it's Gleevec-related, but I blame everything on Gleevec, so why not? I've been on 400 mg. for two years. I should probably go to a dermatologist, but I haven't done so. Warm regards. > > Hi, > > I have had a weird discoloration (a medium brown colour) long and thin > line of pigmentation/discolouration come up on my nose of all > places..has anybody else had some changes in skin pigmentation? > > I am on 400mg of Glivec for about a month now. > > Thanks > Bil in the UK >
Guest guest
Hi Bil, A lot of us have skin issues while on Gleevec and that's because Gleevec interferes with melanin production (that's what gives us our skin colour)....the darker you are, the more melanin you have. In most cases, people see their skin lighten. Some will see a general lighting all over, others will see patches lighten. I wonder if the streak of dark on your nose is really your original colour but the skin around it has lightened making this streak stand out as dark? For me, I only noticed my skin getting whiter around the 3rd year of Gleevec and now it's so light that if it weren't for my grey coloured eyes, I'm sure I'd get mistaken for an albino. Take care, Tracey dx Jan 2002 > > Hi, > > I have had a weird discoloration (a medium brown colour) long and thin > line of pigmentation/discolouration come up on my nose of all > places..has anybody else had some changes in skin pigmentation? > > I am on 400mg of Glivec for about a month now. > > Thanks > Bil in the UK >
Guest guest
Hi Dave and Tracey, yeah this is the same as s just on my nose..It must be the Glivec..it is a " tanned spot " that is a weird shape even! I am mixed race so it does not show up a lot but does definately show up a bit..weird. Traceys comment on the rest of the skin becoming lighter is interesting because I look pale for my usual self so this could possibly also be the case I will see my Hemo tomorrow and I will ask her. Thanks for the response. Guest guest
I'm just super pale. To the point that if I walk by a white wall I almost disapear (a joke my husband makes but not realy a joke, KWIM). Anyway, I don't have any different color spots...except the dark circles under my eyes...but I believe the pigment changes are directly related to the gleevec. Sorry. :} [ ] Discolouration of Skin Hi, I have had a weird discoloration (a medium brown colour) long and thin line of pigmentation/ discolouration come up on my nose of all places..has anybody else had some changes in skin pigmentation? I am on 400mg of Glivec for about a month now. Thanks Bil in the UK
Guest guest
This is year two, and I'm noticing the same thing. Suddenly everyone is suggesting that I " need some sun. Guest guest
Hi All, Don't post often but just to let you know that yes, my OH Ted also has a dark splodge at the end of his nose ! Sometimes it shows more than others, but he's had it for about four years since he started on Glivec. Have heard of others too ! Guest guest
Hi! I haven't really followed this thread but I do have a contribution to make. I was on Gleevec for about 5 years and though already fair, I turned very white. Now, I've been on Sprycel for almost a year and I'm still white as a sheet. If I get any color poolside this summer I'll let you know. L. Guest guest
Bil, I visited with my dermatologist last week and he indicated that I have a case of Melasma--a discoloration of the skin in the face that is normally associated with pregnant women (so-called pregnancy mask). It can be triggered by medicines and associated sun exposure--he thinks is might be related to Gleevec. Nothing but cosmetic concerns, but he did suggest high-grade sunblock that protects against both UVA and UVB rays applied daily. > [ ] Discolouration of Skin > > Hi, > > I have had a weird discoloration (a medium brown colour) long and thin > line of pigmentation/discolouration come up on my nose of all > places..has anybody else had some changes in skin pigmentation? > > I am on 400mg of Glivec for about a month now. > > Thanks > Bil in the UK > >

Guest guest
> > I gather from this that we should avoid exposure to the sun? > *************************************** Absolutely! This topic has been discussed at length but for newbies who haven't been around to benefit from the discussions; anyone on Gleevec should avoid sun exposure or use a strong sun screen when outside. Our skin doesn't have the ability to produce melanin like normal people do because Gleevec inhibits this ability. Melanin is what gives your skin pigment (colour) either on its own or through sun exposure (as in a tan) so people on Gleevec burn very easily. Guest guest
Hi, I do avoid the sun or at least lengthy exposure but I've heard others say that sun exposure caused leathery red skin which did clear up. Guest guest
Wow, I'm so glad you told me this, Tracey. As I looked with shock at my pallid reflection in the mirror this morning, I thought " maybe I should get some sun. " Au contraire! Thanks so much. >From: " Tracey " <traceyincanada@...> >Reply- > >Subject: Re: [ ] Discolouration of Skin >Date: Tue, 22 May 2007 22:56:09 -0000 > > > > > > I gather from this that we should avoid exposure to the sun? > > >*************************************** > > >Absolutely! Guest guest
Hi , I know how disconcerting the Gleevec pallor can be. You could always try one of those self tanners that you put on like lotion although I have to say that the one I tried, came out all streaky. I looked like I hadn't washed in a month so I decided that the albino look was more appealing than than filthy look but you may be luckier than I was. Let me know if you find a lotion that works well Tracey --- In , " Rosen Lum " <rrosenlum@...> wrote: > > Wow, I'm so glad you told me this, Tracey.
