Hi ,

Do you mind me asking where in SoCal you are and who your husband's

oncologist is? I was diagnosed in May and live near San Diego. I am

trying to get opinions on different oncologists in the area. Thanks!

We live in Long Beach, CA--we have an oncologist here, but we have Kaiser,

so you also must have Kaiser. There are few CML specialists, as it is a rare

form of leukemia. We just flew up to Portland, OR to OHSU to see the leading

CML specialist--Dr. Druker. We paid out of pocket $505 for the visit

with him...that is with no insurance coverage, as Kaiser would not cover the

visit. So, we paid for our travel..airfare, hotel, etc. and the consult fee

of $505. If you can afford it, WELL worth the money--Dr. Druker is a wealth

of knowledge....

I have contacted Dr. Druker and am planning on scheduling a visit. My

insurance will pay for one visit with him as they consider it a

second opinion. I was planning on trying to see him in November but

have decided that I will probably wait until I have been on Gleevec

for a year and have a few PCR's for him to look at. That way, he can

hopefully tell me that I am on track. I was just diagnosed this past

May and so far the Gleevec seems to be working.

Thanks for getting back to me
