Guest guest
I had my meeting with Dr. Shah at UCSF last week. He is very knowledgeable about CML and spent about 90 minutes with my wife and me. He is very encouraging about drug therapies for CML--so much so that he said that if he were diagnosed today, he wouldn't opt for a BMT even with a match. He was pretty pleased with what Kaiser had done, except they hadn't yet done a PCR to get a baseline, so he asked if I would let him get one. It wasn't clear to me whether the lab is at UCSF or he sends out to another lab, but he was very clear that he likes the lab he uses. I found him very compassionate, informative, and look forward to seeing him again after my next BMB. He and my onc at Kaiser will be working together, with the Kaiser onc (Dr. Hui--whom I can't say enough good things about) being my main contact and Dr. Shah providing consultation. In short, I would highly recommend him to anyone seeking a CML expert in CA.--
