Hi -- I don't know a thing about the Atkins diet, but I know I am off dieting. I read a great article in Arthritis Today that put things into focus for me. The article said that " dieting " the way we use the word is always a temporary thing. We change our behavior for a period of time to lose a set amount of weight. Then we become slaves to the scale until that weight is off. Finally, when the weight is off we go back to living the way we did before the diet and all the weight goes back on! Rather than dieting the aarticle suggests a lifestyle change. Eat right all the time and get more exercise. I had already started eating right and exercising, but to be honest I _did_ think of it as something of a diet that I would go off at some point. Now I realize that is not the case. I'll have to go the the gym three times a week as I am doing now for the rest of my life! Not so bad, since doing so may well prolong my life. I have lost just over 30 pounds since the beginning of September. No, I am not a slave to the scale any longer, but I do weigh myself. I have lost four inches around the waist, and now even my size 42 pants are feeling a bit loose. I am not saying that the Atkins diet does not work -- again, I have no idea. I'd also say that two weeks is too short a time for any diet -- or non-diet -- to have an effect! You may want to give it some time before you decide that it is or is not working. But , you may also want to think about what I have said, that losing weight not be considered the goal in itself, and that living a more healthful lifestyle is a more productive end. metta -- __________________________________________________
Guest guest
Hi , I did the Atkins. It does work but you have to really stick with it. I am not a fast loser. I actually think I gained weight the first week. But then it did start to come off. I lost 25 total. I have gained it back though. It is a difficult diet to stick too. Just like any other diet I guess. Lee Ann
Guest guest
, Try to hang in there! I am also taking estrogen, synthroid,MTX, nsaids ( better living through chemistry- don't you agree?) I lost 15# from Sept till December being really strict with herbal life, but didn't lose any pounds till the 3rd week. Try measuring--- I did lose several inches after the 1st week. I got off the routine over the holidays and have only been half heartedly trying since then and of course have gained half of it back. I also felt SO much better and was able to get by with a lot less nsaids. I am really trying here to motivate myself back to the straight and narrow as well) So anyway, don't lose faith and keep up the good work- that first week is the very hardest, and you have already gotten through that! Another subject- I have an app't w/ the rheum on Fri. He told me that a " flare " means sustained joint pain w/ reddness and swelling . (it started with 3 of them) Since , several have become painful, get hot but usually will improve if rested and nsaids are taken at max dose for a few days. I have gotten so much more stiffness, that it takes me forever to get moving in the morning, Several " new " joints hurt most of the time, to the extent that I can only do stairs or sustained walking with a lot of difficulty. I think that all must be the PA, as a year an a half ago, I did not have any of this and walked 3-4 miles/ day . Now I can only make 1/2 mile on a good day. Any input befor I see the good doc? Luv to all -

Guest guest
Joanne, Thanks I really believe that is why my levels won't stay down. I have been trying to loose weight but never tried the cereal thing. It sounds do-able and frosted mini wheat's and special k with the strawberries are my two favorite. My 17 year old daughter would like to loose about 20 pounds not that she looks overweight but she has a tiny pouch on her when she is relaxed and not holding those stomach muscles firm. I won't recommend the cereal to her as I think she needs more things in her diet as she is still growing. But, she will walk with me around our neighborhood and she bought this play station dance extreme game with two dance pads so we are going to try a 30 minute work out or challenge every night so it is more like a game then working out. I will let you know how it is going. Thanks for the encouraging words. Take care and as always God's blessing. Jennie

Guest guest
I've gained a lot of weight courtesy of Lyme. I feel lousy so I don't get the exercise I need. And when I'm sitting around the house I just can't say no -- that's a Lyme thing, too. My latest attempt (coincidentally starting today) is to count calories and track exercise. I'll let you know how I'm doing! Jessie > > anybody try to diet and lose weight?did you have a hard time with it? Guest guest
Hey Sister Survivors. . . For those of you interested, who haven't been able to lose weight with NutriSystem and are leery of the diet pills. I saw an ad online through a health site I receive emails from for Lipoplex with Hoodia; which is from a plant~~all natural for appetite suppression. The site is www.mylipoplex.com. Check it out, now they are offering 2 weeks free. It has been on NBC Today Show, 60 Minutes, BBC News & O-The Oprah Magazine. . . " K " As always, ALL are in my prayers. Guest guest
Hi K, I'm always leary of anything that is promoted as being " all natural " because some of the most deadly poisons in the world are " all natural " . Then there's also the concern that it can interact with Gleevec. Even natural foods such as grapefruit can interfere with Gleevec so just because something is " natural " doesn't mean that it is safe to use with Gleevec. You know the saying " if it's too good to be true, it probably is " . There really isn't any secret to losing weight. If you consume less calories than you expend, you'll lose weight. It's a simple theory, although I'm afraid it's not so simple to put into practice. As with all products, I think that people should research them before deciding if they're worth trying. I found one website that didn't have too much positive feedback regarding Lipoplex. You can check it out here if you want: http://www.ultimatefatburner.com/lipoplex-review.html Take care, Tracey -- In , IAintFinishedYet <kttweety@...> wrote: > > Hey Sister Survivors. . . > For those of you interested, who haven't been able to lose weight with NutriSystem and are leery of the diet pills.
