Guest guest Posted August 9, 2007 Report Share Posted August 9, 2007 Hello! I was dx this past May ( 181,000)and I am taking Gleevec. Like a lot of you I have experienced the muscle and joint pain. I have gone through my eyes swelling up, feeling tired after taking med and the hunger. My only concern right now is- I have a sore throat. Is this something that I should really be worried about. Is this something that I should call my doctor. You see I live in this very small town and my doctor is 2 1/2 hours away. The only reason that I can think of to worry about a sore throat is if you think that it might be strep throat, in which case, you will need antibiotics to treat it. I would expect that you would have a fever if it was strep though. You will no doubt get colds during your treatment, considering that you'll be on treatment for years to come, and these colds will run their course without anything to worry about. Another possibility for the cause of your sore throat is allergies. Do you have hay fever? The post nasal drip can cause a sore throat which of course, is nothing to worry about. About a month ago for no reason that I know of I had some sort of mouth infection that seemed to be an realted to my teeth, but there was no cavity(it took allot of calls to even get a dentist to look at me) Anyway I called my Onco and he called in an antibotic for me to take for 7 days. My jaw was swollen very severely and I was freaking out but it the only thing I can think of is something must have gotten into my gums and caused an infection. That is one thing we with CML have to be careful of and that is infections.
