I have my results (noted in the subject line), but because I am in the process of changing doctors/cancer centers, I have not had an opportunity to discuss the results with my practitioner. According to the nurse I spoke to, however, the FISH test shows I am now in " cytogenic remission. " Agreed? Tracey, can you weigh-in on this? Also, I know the BCR-ABL is a molecular test - and that showed I am at 5.8%. This is the first molecular test I have taken, so I am not sure how to interpret the results. Any feedback would be appreciated. The results also show the following: Log% BCR-ABL: .
Guest guest
Hi Tinman, Congratulations, you've had a cytogenetic response if your FISH test has shown 0%. There isn't much you can interpret from your PCR since this is the first one you've had and you don't have the baseline figure that the lab uses to determine what a newly diagnosed patient would have. The best thing you can do is wait for the next one (hopefully done at the same lab) and then you can compare the two. You want to see the number go down each time until it stabilizes at a low number. I'm a little confused as to how you reported the number though. In your subject line you say that the PCR was 5.8% but then at the end of your post you say that it was 0.77. Can you clarify that? Either way, it really wont' tell you much until you get another test done to compare it with. Congratulations though, it looks like you're on the right track. Guest guest
Tracey, To clarify, this is what the molecular diagnostics report says under " Results " : 5.8% BCR-ABL Log % BCR-ABL: .77 What is your interpretation of the results? Guest guest
Hi Tinman, It would appear to me that your PCR result is 5.8% and that your log reduction is .77 which is a little less than 1 log. If I'm interpreting your results correctly, you still have a bit of a way to go before you get to the magical 3 log reduction. Do you have a copy of your FISH test? If so, can you tell me how many cells they analysed and if the result was indeed 0 because usually the FISH will look at 200 cells and when you're zero on the FISH, I would expect your PCR to be better than a 1 log reduction. PCR tests are not always the best indicator of what's going on if you aren't at about a 1.5 log reduction so if you are indeed FISH negative then, that's the test I would focus on at this point. FISH tests don't give false negatives (they can give false positives but not false negatives) so if your FISH is zero, that's a good start and with some more time, your PCR should come down. Take care, Tracey > > > > I have my results (noted in the subject line), but because I am in > the > > process of changing doctors/cancer centers, I have not had an > > opportunity to discuss the results with my practitioner.
