Hi Mark,

I looked up Remeron and I didn't see anywhere where it is used for hot

flushes associated with rosacea so that's the first question I would

ask your doctor....what makes him/her think that this drug will work

for this problem and at what cost (risk)?

Some of the side effects listed for Remeron could potentially be quite

serious so that's something you need to talk with your doctor about as

well. Neutropenia is listed as a side effect which can often already

be a problem with Gleevec alone. Liver transaminases can also be

elevated by Remeron which again, in combination with Gleevec, could

potentially be a real problem as Gleevec can be hard on the liver all

by itself.

You need to ask yourself how much of a risk are you willing to take to

get your rosacea under control? I know rosacea can be really

unpleasant (I also have it). What annoys me the most is that my face

can get so red that I look sun burnt while my neck is white as a sheet

(from the hypopigmentation that the Gleevec causes). It's such a stark

difference in colour so I end up wearing a lot of turtle necks to try

to hide the contrast and if the red gets really bad, I put on some make

up.

As for the antidepressants, they can interact with Gleevec metabolism

but that doesn't mean that you can't take one. They're all a little

different so you need to talk to your doctor about which one will give

you the most benefit with the least interaction. You may need to

juggle the times around that you take it versus when you take your

Gleevec but it is possible to take both. Depression can be serious so

you do need to treat it, the question is how. Hopefully your doctor

will address your concerns.

Good luck,

Tracey
