Guest guest
Nine-year boy dies of AIDS in Muzaffarnagar Shyam Parmar Tuesday, April 12, 2005 (Muzaffarnagar): A nine-year-old boy in Muzaffarnagar who was infected with HIV just months earlier has died. He got the virus during a blood transfusion. Five months back the boy was found to be infected with the HIV virus. Too weak to fight, he finally stopped battling and died on Monday night. Investigations had revealed that he was possibly infected by the blood he had received from a local blood bank in Muzaffarnagar. Ever since he was born in 1996 with his twin, he had been a weak child. His condition had worsened in July last year when he underwent a blood transfusion on his doctor's advice. By December, he had tested positive for HIV. " I should have known that there would be no justice. I was told even in the beginning that there was no point in fighting this case, " said the boy's father Ram Gopal. What has made the little boy's death even more devastating is that the doctor and the owner of the blood bank, who were arrested in January this year, are now out on bail. " We got in a team of experts for this case. There were doctors and other experts who were all involved in the investigations, " said Daba Sherpa, SSP, Muzaffarnagar. Even though stringent rules are in place to govern blood banks, in smaller towns and districts, these laws are often not implemented. At the end of the day, the little boy's death will just end up as another statistic in the long line of people who have been made victims just because blood banks have been too callous and flout rules. http://www.ndtv.com/template/template.asp? template=Aids & id=71403 & callid=
