Good Morning all...

It is a beautiful day here today again.

I was wondering if anyone can point me to a good

reference (book or web page) that may contain a list

of foods low LOW in Iron. MY ferritin count has gone

way past the 2500 mark a few weeks ago and my Onc has

increased my Exjade from 1000mg a day to 1500mg a day.

I may have to go back on Desferol, which I hate as I

have to infuse myself early in the morning and have a

pump slung on me for 11 to 12 hours a day. With low

Platelets I bruise and am tender where I put the

needle in Whereas Exjade is a pill that is mixed with

water or juice and taken in the morning..My problem is

I love food period.. most of what I eat is high iron

content, unlike one of the US Presidents I love

Broccoli, liver and onions etc etc. I eat salmon and

chili and they all contain high iron, steak and

ribs..Fish of all kinds, I eat tons of salad, this

would be healthy diet if I did not have such a high

iron count. I looked at some web sites about high

iron counts and the damage it can cause. I am not

overweight but I guess from the web sites that I could

take a pump attack or stroke etc etc.. I went on

Norvartis web site but they do not have any diet

information for Exjade, yes Exjade it made by the

makers of Nilotinib (amn107) Gleevec and I guess many

many more drugs.

thanks for any information

Hi Skip,

It sounds like you already know which foods to cut down on. You

could always increase your carbs. Except for cereal, most carbs

don't have very much iron.

Take care,

Tracey
