It came on real suddenly......at first I felt I could not take a deep breath and I had some a sharp little pain with each breath. I went to an ER and the tests showed nothing (x-ray, cat scan, etc). It took a while to fully develop.....and gradually got worse. It eventually was dx as pericarditis (which is an inflammation between the heart and the pericardial lining). A classic dx test for this is if you feel better when you are leaning forward or lying on your right side....both these position take some pressure off this area............and worse if you lean backwards (as in a recliner) or lie on your left side. It was treated with high dose anti-inflammatory for me (because it went so long). If you tolerate some OTC anti-inflammatory, you might try a max dose for a couple days.....and apply some heat to the area. Eventually I did go on to develp pleural effusion (this was on Gleevec) but I have never had a problem since. It was quite painful. C. Guest guest
OMG! This group is amazing, you seem to be so on the button with everything, I have been experiencing these sorts of feelings for the last few days and have been really freaked out and too scared to see a doctor, but I open the emails and there is an explanation. Thank you so much, I'll still see my doctor but I won't be so nervous about what he might say. Thanks also for the tip about Echinacea also cos I had not made the connection between it's effects and the job of Gleevac. It was very timely that I read that because the Chef at work is experimenting with a dessert that has pears soaked in Raspberry and Echinacea tea, and I know I would have been wanting to try it. So thanks again.
