Funny, with 6 children I thought I had a petting zoo before I EVER

got the animals - lol. We are having a blast. Not too much time in

the kitchen at this point but do make kefir daily. Im thinking about

making root beer soon now that I have the whey....I think that was

the recipe. I DO love my kefir though.

Thanks for the welcome!

Welcome! We might have enough hs'ers to start our own list--LOL! I

love your perspective, " nourish traditions, " and that is exactly

what we are up to at my house. I'm not only learning to cook, and

cook whole foods, but I'm establishing traditions for my children to

---hi carol

its not about holistic healing per se..healing is about

anything that works , it is no good saying all drugs are bad and

all holistic healing is good ..

it is what works using therapies that can provide evidence , and

then to see if these things can be used sucessfully with you.

that is all ...

and from my digging and people sharing with me it appears ----for

those people who will examine , and evaluate information and are

willing to try there are a few therapies that are worth trying .

must try not to give up,

Hi Dawn. Welcome to our group. Depression is an awful thing. Is there

another

doctor you can see? Is there someone that the sleep study center can

recommend? I would think they would have a doctor there that can

advise you.

I didn't think sleep study clinics just diagnose, but maybe I'm wrong.

What happened to your aunt doesn't have to happen to you. There are many

new treatments available that are preventing the damage. Many people

live a very good life in spite of having RA.

I have had good success using a blend of traditional and

complementary therapies. I take RA meds, but I also get massage,

chiropractic adjustments, and acupuncture. I went on an elimination

diet to explore the possiblity of food sensitivities, made some

discoveries, and try to avoid problem foods. I swim, meditate, and

practice Qigong and yoga. It's been a good plan for me.

Carol,

I feel much the way you do. RA can be to serious of a disease to rely

totally on

holistic treatments. But the combination of alternative and

traditional may be of

great help to many of us. I can remember a time when chiropractors

were considered

quacks, acupuncture was totally off the wall and yoga was for wackos.

I only wish we could find a way to treat this wretched disease

without having

to take meds that cause other problems. Maybe one day.......

Thanks a,

The meds that the doctors are starting me out on my aunt didn't get till her

RA was advanced. I have to admit it is nice to have her for support and in a

small way she no longer feels alone. I have always believed that every thing

happens for a reason even some of the bad stuff. As for my depression my doctor

but me on an additional med friday and I feel great. I haven't taken a nap in

three days. The thing I didn't like was that he waited for six months. It was

the RA specialist that ordered the sleep study and the doctor in charge of this

said since my sleep patterns were normal he believed the underline effect was

depression. All I knew is that I didn't want to sleep my life away and wanted

someone to hear me and do something about it.....finally they did. Unforgently I

lost my student aid in those six months because I wasn't able to go classes and

had to withdraw to protect my GPA. I can get it back but not till I can pay for

a term on my own and that isn't going to

happen for awhile. But you know what I am okay about that too. I do feel so

much better lol. OH yeah I loved the articale on vitamin D. I try to get outside

every day for a couple hours even if it is to just set and the picnic table and

talk to my nieghbors and watch the kids play. I live in an apartment complex. I

have been taking calcium suppliments as well as foods with calcium but I had no

idea they might not be doing me any good without vitamin D. thanks for sending

the link.

okay enough blah blah lol

Lets see, we will tape your finger together so they don't work right. Then we

will put splints on your legs so your knees and ankles don't bend. We won't let

you get a good night sleep for about a week, just naps. Then we will take turns

hitting your at random spots on your body, to cause pain. This might, and I do

mean might give you a small taste of the type of thing most of us go through

every day of our life!!!

We don't take these drugs for the fun of it, but in a desperate search to lead

a more normal and pain free life. Most of us do watch our diet and nutrition, we

have to, some of the drugs make it easier to become ill, (respiratory, gastric)

if we don't. Or else we have related conditions that require us to follow a

certain type of diet. i know I try to eat healthy. guess I am saying to you

don't talk the talk unless you have walked the walk!!!!!!!

Hi :

I loved your description of RA - very, very right on,

and well done! Do you think that Phil might " get it "

a little more now? Probably not, because as you guys

say, you have to walk the walk, or in some of our

cases, mine included, hobble the hobble lol.

Wow!

Obviously you took what phil wrote like I did.

Thank you for speaking up! :)

I am single and live by myself now that my son is grown and gone.

Since RA has entered my life I find myself staying alone more and more.

This is due to the fact that I truly loose patience with people.

Anyway before I ramble on.......... thanks....... for seeing it like I

did. :)

Thanks for your support guys, I know I was a bit harsh, but do you know how hard

it is to seal with some ordinary things sometimes, of course you do!! I walk

with a cane, or as Kathy says I hobble, and am having severe hand trouble right

now. i have spent the last week shopping for a car, a newer used one, but what a

pain it has been.

I can only look at so many in one day, cause after a while it just hurts too

much, I am getting very frustrated. in WI

I loved your description of RA - very, very right on,

and well done! Do you think that Phil might " get it "

a little more now? Probably not, because as you guys

say, you have to walk the walk, or in some of our

cases, mine included, hobble the hobble lol.

Hi again Liddy,

Yep everything will be fine, gleevec is a wonder drug for many of us I

started it

in 04 with 400mg and have been on the same dosage since. I have side effects

that keep me from working but it is allot better than not taking it.

Subject: [ ] Saying Hello

Hi there,

I'm new here, well been here a couple of weeks but just been lurking

and reading the messages.

I'm once again so grateful that Glivec is available here in NZ and can

be covered by Govt. funding.

I was diagnosed in Nov.2001 and spent 2002 on Interferon which is not

a nice drug at all. The side effects were pretty horrendous and I had

to be on other meds to cope with them.

However at the beginning of 2003 I was lucky enough to be accepted for

the Glevac programme and I haven't looked back.I'm considered to be in

remission and I only see my wonderful oncologist every three months,

have to have blood tests monthly but that's all.

I work full-time in a busy restaurant and most of the time I cope

fine. I do get pretty tired sometimes and depression can creep in but

I keep myself very busy doing all the things I love to do and it

usually goes fairly fast.

I'm lucky enough to share a house with my best friend and she has been

my rock through this whole thing, she nags when I work too hard, comes

to the oncologist with me and drags me off to the scrap-book shop when

I'm down LOL.

Anyway just wanted to say be strong and believe it will be ok.

Cheers

Liddy
