Guest guest
Hi there, I'm new here, well been here a couple of weeks but just been lurking and reading the messages. I'm once again so grateful that Glivec is available here in NZ and can be covered by Govt. funding. I was diagnosed in Nov.2001 and spent 2002 on Interferon which is not a nice drug at all. The side effects were pretty horrendous and I had to be on other meds to cope with them. However at the beginning of 2003 I was lucky enough to be accepted for the Glevac programme and I haven't looked back.I'm considered to be in remission and I only see my wonderful oncologist every three months, have to have blood tests monthly but that's all. I work full-time in a busy restaurant and most of the time I cope fine. I do get pretty tired sometimes and depression can creep in but I keep myself very busy doing all the things I love to do and it usually goes fairly fast. I'm lucky enough to share a house with my best friend and she has been my rock through this whole thing, she nags when I work too hard, comes to the oncologist with me and drags me off to the scrap-book shop when I'm down LOL. Anyway just wanted to say be strong and believe it will be ok. Cheers Liddy
