Guest guest
I received the results from my test and I need some help understanding what they say. The test is a BCR/abl, mRNA. From my peripheral blood. My normalized ratio was 121,000 It represents a .35 log reduction from the average patient's level at diagnosis. Previous specimen Date 4/17/07 (Peripheral Blood) Previous Result: 210,000 Test was performed at Mayo Medical Laboratories. I was dx 3-15-07 and have been on Gleevec 400mg. since 4-12-07. My Doctor now wants to do another test in a month on both the blood and bone marrow aspiration. He didn't do a very good job explaining why it's need, what was wrong with the latest results, and what it all means. Can anyone give me some opinions? Thanks
Guest guest
Hi I believe that you are in the UK so asking about PCR testing on the US site may not yield the best responses for you. I am in the UK and my PCR tests now take about 2 weeks, my tests are done on site. This does make a difference, if the tests are sent away then it does take longer and 4 weeks is about right, it is certainly not unusual. Also the tests are run in batches ( so it can take a bit longer for the whole process ). I used to have to wait about 4 weeks for the results so I guess that my hospital are now doing more PCR testing. regards SUSAN LEIGH 0208 958 8753 07956 269368 email: slleigh@... skype: susan-leigh www.caringbridge.org/visit/susanleigh On 4 Feb 2010, at 21:50, d'Araille wrote: > Hi All, > I was wondering if anyone new how long it takes for PCR test result > to come through? Guest guest
Just in case I confused you, I'm in the UK too. My PCR is done at the Hammersmith - sometimes with blood they take when I see them, sometimes with blood taken at my local hospital. They're pretty quick (no more than 2 weeks even for the samples taken at my " other " hospital). It's a bit hard to tell because they don't send the results out to me - I only get them when I visit so I've gleaned this from reading the dates on the reports! But 4 weeks is not out of line I think and it will vary from lab to lab. Good luck - and if you have to go on Glivec, my personal experience with it is good. Obviously I can see why you don't want to go on it and can fully understand that. CML changes one's life - something I've learned but I have accepted I just have to adapt my life to it. Having done that, my life is different but good, and with Glivec working, I am far more confident of being around to look after my young children than I was when diagnosed. I didn't hesitate to start the drug. Honestly, I would be worried if you delayed starting it too long. ________________________________ From: Leigh <slleigh@...> Sent: Fri, February 5, 2010 6:05:16 PM Subject: Re: [ ] PCR test Hi I believe that you are in the UK so asking about PCR testing on the US site may not yield the best responses for you.
