Guest guest
Happy New Year Warriors!!! Just when I start to celebrate this disease reminds me...I have a disease. I was so happy I was in Remission but today I woke up and I have a hive like rash on my neck- different size marks. The shower made them bright red. This is not the bumpy rash that spread all over my body when I started Gleevec- it is different- this is itchy but not bad. I still have the bumpy rash on my face but it went away on the rest of my body. I also noticed that the bone pain is back. Not as annoying as when I first started gleevec just twinges. Should I be worried? Has anyone else had this happen? I've been on Gleevec since March 2007. The GP gave me hydroxyzine for the rash. It is supposed to rain here on Sunday so please send me some happy thoughts while I attempt to complete the half marathon as part of The LLS Team in Training here in Orange County. Thanks!!! Guest guest
Hi there-- My husband had the same thing in terms of the rash while on Gleevec. It would come and go. He mostly used ointments and creams to treat. Yes, it itched him, too. On this neck , sometimes his arms and most annoyingly on his scalp. Docs didnt seem too concerned. And then it went away. And then once in a while it would come back. Go figure.... He only had the bone pain in the very beginning and treated that with heat packs... Hope your marathon goes GREAT!! What a huge accomplishment that will be! Guest guest
Hi Chi, Congratulations on the zero!! Lots of our members have had various rashes while on Gleevec. If it's not too bothersome, you probably don't need to do anything about it. If it's bothering you and really itchy, you could ask your doctor about trying Benadryl. Some members who had really terrible rashes, had success using Prednisone. I wouldn't worry about it though. I've never heard of anyone having serious problems because of the rashes. They're usually more of a cosmetic concern than anything else. Happy New Year to you too, Tracey > > > O!!! Guest guest
Does anyone here in the group remember pre-gleevec days when we were using the horrible interferon? Do you also remember that we use to use benadryl along with our dosage to minimize the affects? It really did work! Just wondering if it would work for Gleevec and Sprycel side affects? Back then not even the Dr's were providing this regime rather it was a patient that figured it out. It helped me and others tremendously and I took the generic (only half of recommended dose) right when I did my injection daily until my body adjusted to life on interferon. (It never really did but it wasn't as bad as in the beginning) Gleevec is so much more tolerable for me. I'm sure those of you who took interferon and or ARAC remember. ez
