Guest guest
Last summer I asked if anyone knew tricks for soundproofing. (I have a psychologist in the room next to a massage therapist. One has clients who discuss their intimate problems and the other has clients who moan and groan. We can’t tell which is which but my stethoscope comes in handy.) I got some 1/2” white foam insulation and tacked it up (planning to wallpaper over it). It was inadequate so I got some carpet padding and stapled it to the wall and put the insulation back over it. I then duct taped over the whole wall (just kidding). The wall is now 17 inches thick and the electrical outlet is down a deep hole. It was still inadequate so the psychologist got some of the green foam that you stick flowers in and (I am not making this up) cut it into blocks shaped like 1/2” thick bricks and little strips of fake mortar. He then painted each piece with latex paint, brick colored and gray, and glued them to the wall making me feel sane by comparison. He has a couple of contractor patients and they came in and pointed at it and laughed. He extracted retribution by diagnosing them with justified penis envy. I discovered something called RC channel, short for resilient channel. It consists of strips of metal that “Firs” the wall out about 1/4” and drywall is attached over it. The space interrupts direct contact between the drywall and studs except for the screws. Add to this, you can buy “Quiet Rock” for $50 to $70 per sheet which is so dense that a 5/8” sheet is equal to 6 sheets of drywall. In the following Google search there is one website for the GreenGlueCompany.com which sells some glue (probably green) which accomplishes a similar feat with some added benefits. Like healthcare, it is hard to get people to try new things but they are making an attempt. http://images.google.com/images?svnum=10 & hl=en & sa=X & oi=spell & resnum=0 & ct=result & cd=1 & q=%22resilient+channel%22 & spell=1 <http://images.google.com/images?svnum=10 & amp;hl=en & amp;sa=X & amp;oi=spell & amp;resnum=0 & amp;ct=result & amp;cd=1 & amp;q=%22resilient+channel%22 & amp;spell=1> http://www.greengluecompany.com/greenGlue-vs-ResilientChannel.php Thank you for your advice.
