Thanks everyone for the support. I showed my wife the responses and

they are very encouraging and just what we need at this point. I

will set her up as a member here eventually and she will be able to

read and participate. Things are still sinking in and we still don't

even know what questions to ask at this point. A little back ground

for those interested.

I'm 45 and My wife is 39. we have a 16 y/o and a 2.5 y/o both girls.

About two weeks ago my wife noted a discomforte in here belly when

she would lay down. We kinda brushed it off but I'm a paramedic and

when I felt the area I was thinking maybe it was here spleen. She

had a routine Dr. visit coming up so they did blood work and that is

when the lukemia was found My wife was actually at work as a

respiratory therapist when her dr. called and said he would come

right over. By the time I got there They were both hugging and in

tears, I knew it could'nt be good but wow. That was a sat. our GP

called an oncologist (spelling maybe, I suck at it) anyway, there

was some relief when he told us that by the bloodwork things looked

like CML not AML. Heck of a thing to be relieved about but at that

point any good news was wonderfull. On monday my wife had her biopsy

done and she was placed on Hydroxyureia and allopurinal to get her

white count under control. ( it was 85,000) Our next appointment

with the oncologist is on the 5th and she will be starting on

Gleevec at 400mg. I know because the prescription was called into

our hospital pharmacy which luckily will cover most of the cost. We

will have a 20.00 co-pay monthly so I don't think we could hope for

better than that. The Dr. will give us the official verdict on the

5th but the plan was to start Gleevec at 400mg. if she was in the

chronic phase and 600-800mg. if she was in the accelerated phase so

I'm taking this as a sort of sidways confirmation that she is in the

chronic phase untill we actually sit down with our Dr. and get the

official word. Since then we have been living life pretty much as we

normally have. Kind of wierd, so far it all feels a bit to easy. I'm

sure there will be ups and downs but we are starting to realize that

we most likely will have many years left to watch our children grow

and to grow old togeather.

Thanks again I'm sure you will be hearing alot from us.
