Guest guest
Yes my son had " bleeding " from his ear also. My sister who is a doctor asked one of her friends at the hospital and they said it was ok, as long as it didn't stay to long or was a lot. I cannot remember why it happened but even in my information that the ENT doc gave us it said some was ok. His only post-surgery complication was he had problems breathing afterwards. I took him to the ER and they gave him some breathing treatments. The best thing was that the day after his surgery he could walk straight without falling. Due to the rapid hearing loss after the Meningitis he lost his balance. When they implanted him he no longer walked like a drunk. Other than that he came through with flying colors. He now is hearing things I never thought he could hear. Though I wish the Navy would have done bilateral implants but they won't pay for it Dagny Quinn-Implanted 11/02 Turn on-12/18/02 Post surgery infection Oh dear, I always wonder when the rollercoaster in my little girl's life is going to end. She was implanted with bilateral implants on Monday March 1st. First couple of days everything was looking really good. Friday came and I needed to put her back in daycare(no I don't blame daycare just kind of part of the story) and Friday night she screamed for about an hour straight and then finally fell asleep. At first I thought she was just tired from being in daycare all day and was having a hard time putting herself to sleep. Well yesterday she woke up and wasn't really herself again. She would have moments where all she wanted was to be held and then other where she would go off and play like normal. Well since there was no temp and we didn't see signs of any problems we thought that she might just be getting her two year molars. Well we came home last night from Grandma and Grandpa's house and we were getting her ready for bed and we noticed that her incision behind her left ear was read and swollen. Great. This is just what we need. I called the ENT on call and he put her on antibiotics. Now this morning we noticed more blood coming out of her left ear. It's not " bleeding " from her ear. I just noticed that I cleaned her ear out yesterday and there was more dried blood in her ear again. Anyone had any problems like this or suggestions? I will definitely be calling her surgeon's office tomorrow morning and speaking to his nurse(he does not have clinic hours on Mondays). I just don't want to be a worry wart but we don't want to have any problems with her implants either.
Guest guest
Hi . I am sorry to hear what you have been through. I had a different problem after my knee surgery two weeks ago. I had a torn cartridge which need it a one day cleaning surgery. After my surgery I had a severe diarrhea and vomiting for a week now. I am on two antibiotics and after all kind of tests nothing show the reason for the continuous symptoms of the watery diarrhea. My doctor believes that my diverticulitis and colitis are to be blamed. I stopped gleevec for one week not to make it worth. I am on liquid diet now. You are right we more susceptible to these infections than " normal " people after surgery. I wish you have a quick recovery. T dxd 2003 PCRU 2007 Zero club #764 --------- [ ] MRSAs > > > > Dear gang, Apropos of nothing, I have just developed a MRSA. Guest guest
I've wondered if there's a connection to diverticulitis and gleevec/cml? I never had any symtoms until last spring and finally had to have part of my large intestine removed. Had severe nausea for weeks prior and after surgery. Guest guest
I'm stunned! I had no idea! I do wonder why my doctor doesn't tell me this stuff. His standard line is that I should feel grateful for Gleevec since it's working for me, and I am, but sheesh. From: shalyn@... Guest guest
One thing we should remember is that just because something is listed as a " side effect " doesn't mean it is necessarily caused by the drug. I was in the early trials for Gleevec and we all had to write down and report every single physical thing we had or experienced while on the drug. All of that went into the list of possible side-effects. If you get any group of say 10 people together on any given day and ask them if they have anything going on in their body--you will get responses. There will be headaches, fatigue, memory glitches, skin ailments, stomach ailments, etc. That's why most side effect lists read like a catalog of general ailments. You should check the frequency to see how likely it is that the drug is causing the side effect (things like fluid retention and muscle cramps for example seem like a sure bet). If the percent is less than 1% you can suspect the drug is not causing the " side effect " as it's likely close to the normal occurrence within a population of the general age of those taking Gleevec. Diverticulitis is quite common in people over 50. Diverticulitis is what brought me to the doctor almost 8 years ago when I was diagnosed with CML. I have been on Gleevec for 7 1/2 years and I have had fewer incidences of this since I've been on Gleevec than I did before. Guest guest
I am better now, and back with Gleevec. I feel we are different. Our tolerance for pain is very low which make our healing slow. Life is good so and can't wait to walk back normal after surgery. , I hope you feel better soon too. Thanks for your replies. God Bless you all. --------- [ ] MRSAs > > > > > > > > Dear gang, Apropos of nothing, I have just developed a MRSA.
