Guest guest
Chad, Quite a coincidence, your employer lets you go after finding out you have CMT. Definite discrimination. Can you still do your job? Can you still do your job if your employer makes modifications to accomodate your needs? You said your 'employer felt it would be best for you to sttep down'. Did YOU have a say in this decision? Was your doctor informed? Did your doctor ever tell you that you would need to step down from your work? Did you ask for a meeting to try to appeal your employer's decision? (like one that includes you, your employer, your medical rep and legal rep) Assumming you can still do any job as you said, immediately file for unemployment benefits. This will bring in some $, but better than nothing for now.Since you're able to work, I'd suggest filing for unemployment; the offices will also have job postings/leads. If your CMT in no way affects your work or your quality of work or the kind of work you do, I would not mention it to future employers. Or, if you are not able to do your former job, see if your State has State disability. This is only temporary in some states for 1 year, but would be helpful to you financially right now to get into. But, you cannot claim both unemployment and disability at the same time. State Rehab services are generally for those disabled people already receiving disability benefits who need to be retrained for another job. They do not offer $. Fight that employer's " decision " ! Look up the ADA and review their site. They have an 800 number as well. ~ Gretchen

It is for the cost of co-pays and various medical expenses (they pay gas allowance of 5c a mile to Dr visits, plane tickets etc.,) If anyone is interested let me know I will get you the info on how to claim. Guest guest
It is not based on income. Anyone who is diagnosed with certain blood cancers (including CML) is eligible. We contacted our local chapter of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society and requested information on the patient financial aid program. You can also get all of the information, including the application, on their website. It was super easy to apply, turn in the request and we actually received our first $500 check 2 weeks ago. As I am sure you know, every little bit helps. Especially if you, like us, are traveling to other states for treatment. Those costs can add up quick! Good luck to you. Guest guest
No. I believe this is to help people who need the support and someone who lives on a fixed income definitely sounds qualifying to me. ez

Guest guest
In going into the web site it's not based on income and no bearing whether you are working or not. It's based on the fact that we are surviving CML and assistance is out there. Rosen Lum <rrosenlum@...> wrote: No it's not based on income at all. From: pmiller789@... We pay $2,500.00 per month for insurance for my husband and I (who by the way also has cancer) and after insurance pays it's share my cost out of pocket on Gleevec is $800.00. With my husbands prescriptions and my other ones, our pharmacy bill is around $1800.00 per month, so we are paying over $4,000. per month out of pocket. We have been forced to sell our business so we can be on a larger group policy. I was diagnosed in April of '06, my husband this past March. I would appreciate if you would tell me how I can apply for t his money as it surely would help. We drive 90 miles to our oncologist. My husband drove this daily for 33 days for radiation! I appreciate your help at email rontina@... thank you

Guest guest
Hi Terry, I am sorry that the LLS couldn't help you. Here are some links that describe their financial assistance programs: http://www.leukemia-lymphoma.org/all_page?item_id=452658 http://www.leukemia-lymphoma.org/all_page?item_id=4603 A description of what is/isn't covered is on the webpages along with downloadable application forms.
