Guest guest
Hi , I’m a patient who is having little side effects. In the early days, especially the first month on Gleevec I had side effects but they all went away except for one. That was fatigue. After about 9 months on Gleevec, it too went away. I have been on Gleevec for 6.5 years. I was diagnosed with CML on June 1 and went on Gleevec about June 9 or 10 (they had to confirm that I was Ph+ first). I am 55 and had just started my own law practice after working in big firms for 25+ years and thought this would really through me for a loop. And emotionally it did (although I was just phasing out of Wellbutrin when dx'd and phased back in)--for a bit. Interestingly, once I was told that I could go on Gleevec, my emotions stabilized (probably also helped by the antidepressant!). My mother told me that when she had radiation therapy after breast cancer surgery, she just decided that she wasn't going to have any side effects--and she basically didn't. So I thought, if it worked for her... And I've not really had any Gleevec side effects (occasionally I look a little puffy around the eyes when I wake up, occasionally I have a little muscle cramping in my feet or a little slight bone pain, but it goes away). I've hot had nausea, fatigue, etc. (knock wood!). So I'm still working and my practice is coming along nicely, thank you. I'd be interested in knowing how many other people are having little or no side effects. But the bottom line is, listen to your body and do what you need to do. Guest guest
I like what you say ! My husband (in the last few months) has taken on the same view as your mother...he decided he was going to feel well and be healthy. And that is how he feels. He is now on Sprycel and has no side affects..well, the only thing he says is that he feels like it takes him longer to wake up in the morning, and he sometimes gets colder than he used to! We feel the mind is a very powerful thing...talked alot about in the recent " fad " " The Secret " --that you can think yourself well. My husband combines medicine (Sprycel) with powerful positive thinking and alot of praying. I hope the best for you on this journey... @...: peisrael@...: Thu, 25 Oct 2007 23:58:36 +0000Subject: [ ] Side effects and working Just to give another view--It seems that everyone reacts differently to Gleevec.
