Guest guest
, this pain is very common. It will pass over time. Mine comes and goes, then shows up in a different place. Ankles, calves, hips, now in my right shoulder. But, for me, usually passes to another area soon enough. You probably want to speak with your Onc about the pain. I am very allergic to anything with aspirin, so much as a baby aspirin, and I have problems. Cannot take too much Tylenol, so I have a prescription for the unbearable days. The muscle, bone pain and in my case, severe headaches are well documented side effects, so I am guessing can come up with something for you to take. Chris **************Start the year off right. Guest guest
From what I have read here in the last couple of years everybody has some joint pain the first month of treatment. I had a really bad pain for a week or so and then it quickly went off, a month into treatment and I had no problems with that. I had shoulder pain a few times since (3 years) but it was probably sport related (climbing)and was pretty minor. I am on 400mg/day, with higher doses it may be different. Marcos. Guest guest
The good news is that it won't last for too long. That leg pain used to wake me up at night. But it lessened in severity and now is pretty manageable. Hang in there. From: rachel_art_design@... I have 800 mg Motrin, but it's ripping up my stomach. I have tried Alieve, but doesn't work as well. I am very frustrated. The good news is my white has gone from 43,000 to 12,000...so the Glevec is working.!! I also wanted to thank you all for the information and your experience. --------------------------------- Be a better friend, newshound, and know-it-all with Mobile. Try it now. Guest guest
allopurinol is not a pain killer, it is a medication to help kidneys cope with the big amount of waste coming from the dying white cells. It transforms the lactic acid into something that doesn't have to be processed by the kidneys. Marcos. Guest guest
Yes, Allopurinol was given to me during the first two weeks treatment of CML when the cells were high.? I figured it was another type of chemotherapy. I can tell you that joint pain is pretty common during the first months of therapy, when the cells are being killed off at a rapid rate. I even developed something called chloromas, lumps of dead cells that would appear on a bone somewhere on my body. They did disappear after a few days, but were itchy, not painful. Unfortunately, during my Gleevec treatment over the past 7 years, I have been plagued with chronic joint and bone pain that was excruciating. Further research into my personal case revealed I may have been compromised by Lyme's disease, which causes joint pain as well as Gleevec, so I am being treated with pain medicine. I have chronic pain that was pretty prohibitive living a normal life style.? THis does not happen to everyone, so do not be alarmed. But if your pain increases over time, you might want to see a specialist, perhaps a rheumatologist, as I did. Best of luck and hope it resolves soon. - Lynne A. allopurinol is not a pain killer, it is a medication to help kidneys cope with the big amount of waste coming from the dying white cells.
