I think its more likely that his body is adjusting to the drug. Those " fluctuations " are within the normal variation for the PCR test. It depends on the lab but the only cause for some concern would be if it continued going up over a few more tests and went well over 0.05 %
Guest guest
Yes! Thank God, yes! The good thing about the early weeks on Gleevec is having everyone reassure you that this, too, shall pass, and by gum, for the most part, it does. @...: no_reply@...: Wed, 16 Jan 2008 20:46:55 +0000Subject: [ ] Gleevec Side Effects diminishing Hi All,I just had a quick question for all the experts here. My husband has been on Gleevec 800 mgs for about 6 months. For one year prior to that he was on 400mg. All during that time he has had diahhrea at least once or twice a day. Guest guest
Hi Debbie, I remember thinking the same thing years ago when I suddenly had a normal bowel movement for the first time in many months....lol. I've since realized that side effects come and go without any logic or predictability. I can go months without any diarreah then I'll have a few days with it. I guess food has some sort of role to play but the other side effects also seem to wax and wane. Some days I wake up looking like I've been punched in the eyes and other days I look semi-normal. Some days I drag my behind around all day because I'm so tired and other days I'm full of energy. Some days I can concentrate on what I'm doing and other days I feel like I have Alzheimer's. I guess there are lots of variables to consider such as diet, sleep, emotional issues going on etc but the bottom line is that things do come and go and thankfully, it has nothing to do with how well the medicine is working. PCR tests have a certain amount of variability and 0.001 to 0.007 is within the normal variations for most labs so please don't worry about that. That's why they say to watch the trend of PCR tests rather than reaching any conclusions from just one test. Take care, Tracey dx 6 years ago today > > Hi All, > > I just had a quick question for all the experts here. My husband has > been on Gleevec 800 mgs for about 6 months. Guest guest
, Six years! That is wonderful, especially since you are healthy and and inspiration to everyone here. I love your message. You hit the nail on the head. For my husband to tell me that he is upset he hasn't had a " Gleevec Bowel Movement " is really almost funny. Who would have thought you'd miss that!! But of course, you kind of lose your innocence after the initial diagnosis and never again feel like you can take anything for granted. A dear friend of ours who is a breast cancer survivor, 6 years now, said that my husband needs to get used to being someone with cancer. That it is a " condition " that we have to learn to live with. And that is what we are doing. Like diabetes we watch it every day, watch our diet and when we get scared, we lean on you guys and you help us through every time. Now the weight gain......sadly that is still there. And I am a very sympathetic spouse who has gained right along with him. Many thanks Tracey for your words of encouragment. Guest guest
Hi , Do you mean a hot flash or just your face flushing? I get both. Sometimes my face is tomato red but I think it's more rosacea than Gleevec. Do you actually have a fever or just feel like you do? Some people do go through a period where they have frequent fevers when they first start Gleevec. Tracey > > > > > > Hi All, > > > > > > I just had a quick question for all the experts here. Guest guest
Hi , You should have your eyes checked out. CML is just one of a variety of reasons you could be having vision problems. Sometimes treatment is necessary and the earlier you start, the better. Tracey > > > > > > > > > > Hi All, > > > > > > > > > > I just had a quick question for all the experts here. Guest guest
Yes CML can cause vision problems. In fact, that's how some people get diagnosed. ______________________ When you are on Gleevec, it can cause increased tearing in the eye and this can cause blurry vision. Once your white blood count is under control, the CML itself is not causing the eye problems, but they are drug related. C.

There's a very technical but informative article that illustrates the various complications that leukemias (including CML) can cause in the eyes where vision can be effected. http://tinyurl.com/yvcjmu Of course there are also many other reasons that someone could be having vision problems so it's always a good idea to have it checked out.
