Guest guest
Hi , It would really be helpful to know just how much his PCR went up. I'm sure you already know that PCR's do fluctuate and depending on the lab that did them, there can be a significant margin of error with them. I've seen my PCR's fluctuate almost a complete log at times and I know others who've had this experience as well. The other thing I want to point out is that I think you're being a little bit unrealistic in expecting to achieve a 3 log reduction so quickly. Your first goal should be that reaches CCR (where the 20 cells analyzed in a bone marrow biopsy are Philadelphia free). Once he gets to CCR, then you can look forward to the 3 log reduction. Many of us took several years to achieve a 3 log reduction so don't be discouraged if isn't there yet. What matters is that he remains stable and hopefully in time, you'll see the trend continue to drop. Let us know when you have the numbers, in the mean time, try to relax. If the doctor used the words " ever so slightly " that indicates to me that is stable and the PCR has fluctuated within the margin of error that you could expect with the test. Take care, Tracey > > > Hi all: > My husband, , has been on Sprycel now for almost 4 months. He feels great..hardly any side affects anymore. " > > Well, we dont have the " reports " yet, just the call from the onc...so we dont have any numbers to share. But all she said was " Well......your numbers actually went up ever so slightly. At the point he was taken off, he hadnt had a PCR test done for about 4 months prior. And, the onc didnt think to do one at the point she took him off. We are all kicking ourselves for that oversight, cuz ultimately, we dont now just how well he was responding to Gleevec, since he went off of it with a rather " old " PCR test. > > All in all---PCR tests that go up slightly--how worrysome is this? Again, we will share the exact numbers when we get them. Are we wrong to feel like this PCR will be our baseline test for Sprycel, so until we look at the results of the next one (in another 3-4 months), we shouldnt think this or that? > > We really felt like this was the one - like would get to be on Zavie's list!!! When we saw Dr. Druker, he said to give it a year....though he felt would respond in less time since Sprycel is so much more powerful. Dr. Druker is the one that told us to give Sprycel a year, and if didnt reach a 3-log reduction in that time to start looking into bone marrow matches. > > Regards > Cervera > wife of Cervera, dgnsd 07/2006 - current age: 35 > Was on 400mg Gleevec daily, changed to Sprycel due to liver intolerance 07/2007. > Currently on 140mg Sprycel daily. > _________________________________________________________________ > Boo! Guest guest
Sorry Zavie-- I have a tendendancy to ramble and it seems I have confused you. I actually stated that we were WISHING the doctor said " Yeah--3-log reduction! " , but she DID NOT say that and in fact 's numbers slightly increased ever so slightly. I wish that we could take your #1111 in the Zero Club, but it will have to go to someone else! Hopefully will get his number soon! Guest guest
Hi , Don’t be so quick to reject the Zero Club number. The criterion to get a number and join the club is for the patient to be at CCR. Not PCRU or a 3 log reduction. So does qualify and the number 1111 is assigned to . The next goal is for him to get to a 3 log reduction.
