Guest guest
Hi all: My husband, , has been on Sprycel now for almost 4 months. He feels great..hardly any side affects anymore. He just got his first PCR test done...we had our fingers crossed and were hoping the call from his doc would be " GREAT NEWS!!! You did it! You reached a 3-log reduction!! " Well, we dont have the " reports " yet, just the call from the onc...so we dont have any numbers to share. But all she said was " Well......your numbers actually went up ever so slightly. Let's give it another 3-4 months and run another PCR. " He is still scheduled for a Bone Marrow Biopsy in December. We have asked her to gather all reports so can drop by and pick up copies. I dont know if many of you remember, but was taken off Gleevec due to liver intolerance. At the point he was taken off, he hadnt had a PCR test done for about 4 months prior. And, the onc didnt think to do one at the point she took him off. We are all kicking ourselves for that oversight, cuz ultimately, we dont now just how well he was responding to Gleevec, since he went off of it with a rather " old " PCR test. All in all---PCR tests that go up slightly--how worrysome is this? Again, we will share the exact numbers when we get them. Are we wrong to feel like this PCR will be our baseline test for Sprycel, so until we look at the results of the next one (in another 3-4 months), we shouldnt think this or that? We really felt like this was the one - like would get to be on Zavie's list!!! When we saw Dr. Druker, he said to give it a year....though he felt would respond in less time since Sprycel is so much more powerful. Dr. Druker is the one that told us to give Sprycel a year, and if didnt reach a 3-log reduction in that time to start looking into bone marrow matches.
