Guest guest
Tracey, I read this post after posting and yes I did fell a huge improvement. Everything you said is about your symptoms is ditto for me. You know that old saying can't chew gum and walk at the same time' that's me! Sometimes I feel very frustrated by it but then we all have learned to adjust to our new lifestyles on Gleevec or whatever meds were taken. Or should I say cancer in general. What I do know is that almost everyone that I know that has taken any form of chemo for all types cancer - they all have what we call chemo brain. So for the professionals to say that Gleevec is not causing us to have these symptoms is being ignorant to me. Just as you said it affects the electrolytes especially magnesium. There are obviously many other things that could be out of range that could also cause this issue. When I told my Doctors I was taken the supplements before and the difference it made on the side affects, he like the rest just brushed it off but didn't say not to take them. He just kind of looked at me like well if you think it works for you then do what makes you happy. I will be starting my potassium, magnesium, calcium and water intake again today. It not only helped with all the symptoms we all have but gave me enough energy to start exercising regularly and with adding the exercise my energy level was awesome. I felt like I was 20 not 40! I know the magnesium can cause diarrhea but somehow a few years ago the diarrhea disappeared and I started having issues with constipation so I was kind of relieved. If it gets out of control I drink Chamomile tea which the Chinese use to treat upset stomach and diarrhea and it really did work for me. Actually, if I don't limit my intake of the chamomile it causes constipation. So in a few weeks I should be updating you all again as to how the supplement regime is working for me. Hopefully it will do what it had done previously. Make me feel like I'm 20 again:-) ez

Guest guest
Hi , When I commenced Glivec in Sept 07, my haem/t put me straight away onto 500mg magnesium x 2, 3 times daily specifically for the leg cramps. The only time my legs ache is when I have done too much and they ache more than cramp. If I haven't taken them ie forget to get more tablets, I get weird aches and pains, so I know they definitely help. I also take 50,000 units of calcium once a month as my levels were really low. The only other non prescribed drug I take is fish oil 1000mg which is good for heart, joints and supposedly memory also - omega 3 oils.
