Guest guest
I am eligable for medicare in April of this year. This is kind of a scary time in that Sprycel is so expensive. Medicare told me that Sprycel because it is a cancer drug comes under Medicare Part B and not under Prescription part D. Has anyone had experience with this. I am not sure I am getting the right info I do have time to research this but It has kind of thrown me for a loop. God bless you all and thanks for any help I can get. Carolyn_Kuptz@... Guest guest
Hi Carolyn, Sprycel is covered under Part D. It is not a Part B medication. You can see your coverage options, and even enter your own personal drug list at http://www.medicare.gov/Default.asp Then choose the first option on the list " Medicare Prescription Drug Plans - 2008 Plan data > > I am eligable for medicare in April of this year. Guest guest
Hi , I didn't qualify for Part D so I got another plan that is virtually the same. I was also told that I can go to Medicare and witha little pape5rwork they will take over payments of Part B which would give me an extra $10 a month. Guest guest
I am eligable for medicare in April of this year. This is kind of a scary time in that Sprycel is so expensive. Medicare told me that Sprycel because it is a cancer drug comes under Medicare Part B and not under Prescription part D. ______________________________ Hi Carolyn, Gleevec and Sprycel, etc are covered under Medicare Part D, but it is not inexpensive (but much better than the full cost for sure). In Part D, you have a co-pay (sometimes a % or a certain $ amount, mine is 25%) for the first $2400 of drug coverage........then you hit the donut hole and the policy does not pay for any of the drug until you have a certain amount out of pocket (something like $3850)...............then it is called catastrophic drug coverate, and they pay 95% and you pay 5% for the rest of the year. All of the drug coverages follow the same formula........but some won't cover our drugs, and the co-pays for the first coverage up to $2400 can be different. But, if you plug your drug into the information on the Medicare site, it will tell you which insurance policies to look at. For Gleevec/Sprycel I think it was going to cost me about $6,000 per year.....but I am still on a Sprycel trial and my drug is provided for me. I do get Procrit from Medicare Part D, and it is also expensive. Hope this info helps. If you are about to retire from some place, you might have better coverage if you stay with their retirement health plan. C.
