Guest guest
Liddy- I am so glad Gleevec is working so well for you. It's wonderful that you have been able to claim your life back. I have to say, this topic has been extremely comforting and validating for me. My onc. just told me on Tuesda that Gleevec does not cause fatigue---THEN he contacted my psychiatrist to address the fatigue. The psychiatrist had been treating me for a year for depression--and fatigue was my number 1 complaint at thtat time. It turned out to be CML. I was so frustrated I started crying (nothing like confirming his impression that I'm just a nut case). i told him that everything I have read about gleevec said it causes fatigue, including the brochure he gave me. Anyway, my onc is wonderful, but I think he is not very experience with CML. He told me to bring the things I'm reading to him. And so I am saving these emails to share with him. Thanks everyone for sharing your experiences and being here. It has been more helpful that I can express. Take Care of Yourselves! Guest guest
Hi , It's too bad your doctor isn't aware of the fatigue that Gleevec can cause. It's a very well known side effect and you can find documentation about it in just about every article you read. Here's one article that you can show your doctor. I think if you show him published articles, he will be more easily convinced than if you show him posts from anonymous patients. Guest guest
Hey Liddy, I can't do one of the new drugs because I have bad asthma and bronchitus and the trouble the new drug is showing with the lungs scare me too much. The other drug was just released by the FDA so I'd rather see how it goes with that for a while before trying it. I don't want to trade the side effects I have for worse ones, KWIM? Thanks though! Liddy <calicolid@...> wrote: I have been reading the thread on the side effects some people suffer with Gleevac. It absolutely amazes me because, before Gleevac, I was on Interferon, I drug I self injected every night. The side effects were horrendous, memory loss, extreme fatigue, loss of taste, smell, eyesight was effected. Getting off the couch was sometimes impossible for days on end. Loss of interest in family, friends, conversation. Just wanted to curl up in bed in the dark. Was on medication for depression, lost my hair, Did work but many times had to come home because I just couldn't cope standing up. Then I was approved for Gleevac and my whole life changed, my energy surged, I couldn't wait to get out of bed in the morning, I became alive again. My whole life changed, I'm back to being me. I've been on Gleevac now for 4yrs, and yes I've hit the odd speed bump but nothing I can't cope with. I guess where I'm going is that if Gleevac isn't right for you and you can get one of these other new drugs, I say go for it, because every drug isn't for every person and if there's something better you should fight for it.I feel for the people that struggle on Gleevac cos I know how horrible it was for me on Interferon and I wish every one could feel as great as I do now, so whatever drug it takes, fight for it. Take care
