Zavie,

You have NO IDEA how you have just MADE MY DAY!!!!!!!!! Actually, if you

will note, the time between the first and second PCR values was THREE

YEARS!!!! I did not respond to Gleevec or Desatinib between 2004 and 2007

and then suddenly - BAM! - it began to work. I am ecstatic and have a new

lease on life - the sky is the limit!! I feel great and am so completely

grateful to our wonderful scientists, doctors, the Leukemia & Lymphoma

Society, Bristol Myers Squibb - I'll give 'em all a big wet kiss!!!!

It has been my aspiration to be a member of your zero club. It has been my

" make a

wish " for years. Thanks so much!!!

Hi Gail,

Most people don't have a PCR done at diagnosis time. However, all the labs

that do PCRs have an average value for what the PCR of a newly diagnosed

patient would be. You just have to call the lab and ask then what it is. I

use 10 for the lab that does mine. Also, each lab is different and sometimes

the same lab will upgrade their equipment so you are comparing apples to

oranges for a while.

Your results are excellent. If I read your numbers correctly, the first one

would be a 3 log reduction if the starting value was 16. This is an

remarkable result after only 1 month on Gleevec. The next result would be

almost a full log reduction from the first test. The following one is

slightly less than the previous result but nothing to worry about because it

is within the sensitivity of the test itself. And the last resulr is a full

log reduction from the previous one. This is an excellent result compared to

the previous one, especially since it was donly one month later.

To act on any changes in the PCR results, you really need 3 consecutive PCR

results in order to determine a trend.

This qualifies you for a number in the Zero Club. I will assign you a number

and post it on the list and copy the post to the Virinia's list. if

that is OK with you.

Hi Zavie,

I have a PCR question for you. You and I have met twice in California on

your visits here. I am a member of Virginia's group. I was resistant to

Gleevec, placed on the BMS trial and have now been on the Desatinib BMS

trial for two years and am finally getting some results. I am finally able

to get a meaningful PCR result and have had several done in the past few

months. I would like to compare them to yours - or anybody's for that

matter. Unfortunately I did not have one at diagnosis. My first one was

done in 2004 after I had already been on Gleevec for one month.

Anyway, here they are.....any comments?

6/28/2004 1.64 times ten to the negative two

6/21/2007 3.44 times ten to the negative three

9/18/2007 5.02 times ten to the negative three

10/19/2007 7.60 times ten to the negative four

Thanks,

Gail s
