Thanks for sending this Marcos. I had never heard of these genes

before and I find it very exciting that someone is looking at them.

Imagine if this could actually lead to a cure!!! Ah, what a thought.

Even if it's only for the 4th or 5th generations of drugs it would

already be useful. How far down the road there will be cure I don't

know. What is certain is better they understand the genetic

abnormalities and pathways of the gene expressions better is the

chance they find a cure. One interesting thing in the press release is

the statement that with most cml patient surviving a lot longer than

before gleevec, our number grows and we are becoming more

" interesting " for the pharmacy business.

The article mentions that there's 21,000 people living in the US with

CML. With a drug habbit that costs between $36,000 and $72,000 a

year, I don't doubt that we're a VERY INTERESTING group of people for

the pharmacutical companies! I'm just so grateful that the doctors

are still interested in finding us a cure because I'm sure the drug

companies aren't!

I still hope that with our numbers going up the price will go down,

maybe I have too much faith. I wouldn't be too surprised, I am getting

ynical with age. For the cure that's going to be an interesting

conflict of interest. I ll ponder that at sea, I am just getting ready

to drive down to LA for 4 days of diving. Everybody has a good

week-end.

Marcos-

The next time you come down-let me know- you veterans

have been my mentors and taken much of the fear out of

this journey and also instilled a great deal of hope.

That would be logical, wouldn't it.

In almost every other business, when competition is introduced,

prices drop but not in the drug business it seems.

In the 6 years that Gleevec has been on the market, we've seen

competition introduced to the market (Bristol Myers Squibb) and we've

seen patient numbers increasing steadily as survival rates jump, yet

at the same time, the price of Gleevec has continually gone up and up

and up with no end in site.
