Guest guest
I found this one really interesting. A new study is underway to determine if patients can go off of Gleevec and onto a low dose of Interferon if they can achieve PCRU while on Gleevec and maintain that response for at least a year. Four patients were studied in this abstract, all had achieved PCRU while on Gleevec and maintained that for a year, then stopped taking it and started taking a low dose of Interferon. All of them were still PCRU after between 3 and 12 months of being off Gleevec and taking only Interferon. Interferon works differently than Gleevec does so it's possible that Interferon may be able to handle the minimal residual disease better than Gleevec to eradicate those last stubborn quiescent cells. http://www.abstracts2view.com/hem07/view.php?nu=HEM07L1_342 & terms= Tracey
