Guest guest
Your oncologist is right. From what I understand from your post 4.1325 is the baseline ratio of the lab which is an average result at dx for previous patients. Same thing for me at the Stanford hospital lab. The formula for the log reduction is correct : log reduction = log10(baseline/ measured ratio) = log10(baseline) - log10(measured ratio), where the measured ratio is what you write BCR-ABL;ABL ratio. It looks to me that the 1.723 is the log reduction. If it was the the ratio the log reduction would be in that case about 0.38 , what sounds unlikely (I dunno how you got 2.4095). So my guess 1.723 is the log reduction, what means the number of cml cells are about 55 times lower than the average patient at dx. It's close to CCR and it makes more sense at one year of treatment. As your dr not understanding the results I am not so surprised. You may want to call or pay a visit to the quest lab to be sure that 1.723 is the log reduction. Also you may want to see a cml specialist, as it is important to know if you are at CCR at one year. The dosage of gleevec depends on that information. Marcos. Guest guest
Sounds like my own story except that I started on 600 mg and when I didn't reach 3 logs at one year, they moved me to 800 mg and within 2 months I was there, I was told that the one year mark isn't being and strict of time anymore. They told me they have extended it to 18 months as the stats don't show any difference in the outcomes. I have been over a 3 log reduction since. The experts on this site will give you the good suggestions but I just wanted to throw out my 2 cents there. I was only 33 when diagnosed as well. (35 now). I also have 3 little children as well. Do you have a sibling match? Transplant is such an individual choice. I am now on Spyrcel and feeling great. Much better quality of life then Gleevec. I had some tremendous side effects with that. Best of luck and I am sure you will get some great advice from others. 35 CML 5/13/05 Gleevec 800mg until 8/07 Spyrcel 100 mg since 9/7/07 Wife and mother of 3 (12,8,7) **************Biggest Grammy Award surprises of all time on AOL Music.
