Guest guest
Hi Guys, As a newly diagnosed patient with CML it is instructive to read your comments. I have a question for you. When should the first PCR test be done and how often should the PCR test be repeated? Thanks in advance. ________________________________________________________________________________\ ____ Be a better friend, newshound, and know-it-all with Mobile. Guest guest
Hi Ed, The first PCR should be done as early as possible. The reason is that you need a baseline value in order to follow your progress. Most patients don't get a PCR test at diagnosis time so each lab will assign an average PCR value for their patients. All subsequent PCR tests are compared to this initial value. Testing should be done every three months. In the olden days the tests were BMBs and FISH tests. Today, many doctors monitor patients using only the PCR test. In the earlier days, because PCR tests were not readily available, PCR testing was only done after you achieved CCR via BMB or FISH. I hope this helps and I haven't dazzeled you with all the acronyms.
