Guest guest
I recently just came up on a year with CML and had a PCR test done. I need help with a few things, as my doctor even admitted he did not understand my latest results. Let me first start off by saying that I never had a bone marrow test at diagnosis. Therefore, I have no baseline. However, my oncologist indicates I did not need one. My latest PCR test came back with BCR-ABL T (9;22) Fusion result at 0.078 H. It also indicates that my BCR-ABL:ABL Ratio result is 1.723 (next to that it indicates that this is my log reduction). My doctor and I are puzzled, as my CBC's have been great all year. The PCR test was done at Quest Diagnositics. It indicates to calculate the log reduction, you should do the following: Log10(4.1325) - Log10 (BCR-ABL;ABL ration) Unit/log reduct. Given this information, is my log reduction 2.4095 or is it a 1.723 log reduction (page 1 of my report)? I am concerned about my numbers, as I know that in order to reduce the risk of disease progression one must achieve a 3-log reduction during the first year of treatment. Should I consider taking Sprycel? I'm even considering a transplant since I am only 31 (thinking that should of been my first choice but there are so many risk factors involved). I appreciate any responses to my post, as I am confused and scared. I want to live a long productive life, as I have two kids and a wife that I love dearly. By the way, I started on Gleevec 400mg in January 07 and switched to Gleevec 600mg in March. I'm not sure if switching to 800mg would help at all given all the literature that exist.
