Guest guest
Hello Carl, I, too, had stomach problems while taking 800 mg/day of Gleevec and had two stomach bleeds, inflamation of the rest of my stomach and took Protonix for awhile which cleared that up. I now have been on Sprycel for about 1 1/2 years. I was taken off Sprycel for about 2 1/2 weeks recently because of pleural effusion and peripheral neuropathy and started taking it again about a week ago. I take my two 50 mg tabs in the morning was a serving of Enusre or another nutritional drink and have not had any stomach problems at all. L [ ] " Stomaching " Sprycel (cross-posted) Greetings: As you may know because of the G250E mutation I have to switch from Gleevec to Sprycel. While on Gleevec, I had to take it with food and even then I experienced nausea and occasional vomiting. What is the best way to take Sprycel? With water? With food? And when is the best time of day? Is it as rough on the stomach as Gleevec? I would appreciate feedback from you Sprycel veterans and some ideas as to what initial side effects to expect. Many thanks, Carl --------------------------------- Never miss a thing. Make your homepage.
Guest guest
I was on Sprycel for three years.. I could take it any time. No food, food, whatever. It never bothered my stomach. Unfortunately after three years just two weeks ago I developed some bad side effects. Even tho I am PCRU. It worked that way. My Doctor is going to start me on Tsigna. Anyone out there on Tsigna? What side effects are you having and what dosage are you on? I am really sad about having to go of Sprycel. Guest guest
See I do not understand why some doctors just take you off Sprycell for awhile for pleural effusion and then back. My dr. just insists I go off it and on to Tsigna. I wonder sometimes who knows what. By the way ---when you had pleural effusion what did they do about it? Did they draw out the fluid. You can email me at onthewtr@... if you like. I am in the midst of deciding what to do. Guest guest
Hi Sharon, I'm on a Sprycel trial so of course they want to continue and I would like to continue on Sprycel as well if I can handle it ie., no pleural effusion or peripheral neuropathy. But another doc I know from NIH research strongly suggested I move on to Tasigna, too. I'm also weighing my options and waiting to see how I do on this second try with Sprycel. You know, some people also take vacations with Gleevec and I eventually was not responsive to that drug. I was fortunate to get into a Sprycel trial. Lots of things to consider. Let me know whwhat you decide to do and why, if you want. L. Guest guest
Hi again, I too, was PCRU and was doing quite well. I really don't know the answer. I asked my trial onc about Tasigna and we do have it on the table for discussion. I would not hesitate to demand it if these bad side effects came back. L. Guest guest
Carl, I have been on Sprycel since 6/07 and I take one before breakfast and one before dinner with no problems. My experience has been alot better with the Sprycel than Gleevec. Best of Luck. Guest guest
I was on a study also but they have taken me off it because of the plural effusion. Did you tell me you had plural effusion also? If so what did they do for you. Did they draw the liquid out? Anyone one have an ans to that question? What do they do. Does it just go away. Guest guest
Sharon, My pleural effusion was not horrible but I also had peripheral neuropathy in all ten finger tips and could not write or type -- and I'm a writer. So, the level of the liquid in my lungs was possibly less than what you have or had. I did take lasix and potassium for one week at the beginning of being off the trial then nothing after that. That did help but it took the full 2 1/2 weeks to get it out of my system. Now I'm monitoring myself and was told that if I got the least bit of pleural effusion or had trouble breathing to call them immediately. My trial onc is in land and I live in Virginia so it take more than an hour to get to the trial onc and if I'm disabled in any way it wouldn't be possible for me to drive all that way. They did not draw any loiquid out of my lungs. L. [ ] " Stomaching " Sprycel (cross-posted) Greetings: As you may know because of the G250E mutation I have to switch from Gleevec to Sprycel. Guest guest
Carl, I have only been on Sprycel for three months.? It doesn't seem to matter if?I take it with food or not.? Since I am on the trial and I must take it twice a day, I take it with food in the morning and just before bed at night without food. ? For only a week of the three months I felt nausea at night.? The docs said to take with lots of water and to sit up for awhile after you take it to make sure it 'goes all the way down.'?? I felt worse when I took it with lots of water.? Now I take it with just a couple of sips.? However, I do try to sit up for 15 to 30 minutes before lying down. ? After the first month on the drug (and my first month with CML) I did need to stop the drug because of low counts and pneumonia.? I didn't get the plueral effusion but my clinic was watching very close for such things.? In three weeks I had three or four chest xrays! ? Since I never took Gleevec, I can't compare the two drugs.? I can say from what I've heard, Tasigna seems to have some impact on heart rhythms, I may steer clear of that since I have a murmur and palpitations from time to time already.? ? For me, the major side effects on Sprycel have been the fevers and fatigue, swelling feet and hands, some very minor neuropathy in my hands, and a funky eye rash swelling thing.? However, this is probably due to the fact that I started my CML treatment on Sprycel, and so I had a sizeable disease load to kill.? ? Keep us posted on how you are doing.? At this moment, and for most of this week.... I'm great!? Go Sprycel! ? Happy Friday. Guest guest
Sharon, I had a pleural effusion due to fractured ribs. It wasn't a bad effusion, so they just waited it out. I did not stop my Gleevec. The only time that I did stop, is when I had pneumonia, with a HCT of about 8.2, very low soduium, and was in ICU for 5 days. I was also on Interferon and Neupogen at the same time. @...: onthewtr@...: Fri, 22 Feb 2008 09:36:07 -0800Subject: RE: [ ] " Stomaching " Sprycel (cross-posted) See I do not understand why some doctors just take you off Sprycell forawhile for pleural effusion and then back. Guest guest
Thanks , I did not even know I had fluid on my lung. Had no symptoms. They took a chest xray to see what was going on because I was running fever. I asked them if I could take a water pill and they said that was for congestive heart failure not for pleural effusion. I do no want to have them draw it out.
