Guest guest
Hi Ray and Beth, The " Gleevec rash " is very common and almost all patients who have had it, have been able to continue Gleevec treatment so please don't worry about that. The mild rashes can be treated with Benedryl but the more persistant and pesky rashes usually need some Prednisone to eliminate them. Hope this helps, Tracey --- In , " monkeyfun_16901 " <monkeyfun_16901@...> wrote: > > Hi folks, over the last couple of days we noticed Beth had developed a > rash on her thighs and today some on most of her body. Guest guest
Ray and Beth, " Almost " is the operative word. In the case of my wife, the rash was horrific and after 9 days she has to taken off Gleevec. Luckily she was accepted in the then Phase II Sprycel trial and since then (almost 3 years) she has been pcru and no rash ever appeared. In Beth case, it seems the rash is already regressing so it will most likely disappear as it does in the vast majority of cases, but even if it were not, there is no reason to worry too much, as Sprycel and/or tasigna are around that do a good job on CML. Good luck and stay positive, ________________________________ From: [mailto: ] On Behalf Of Tracey Sent: Wednesday, November 21, 2007 12:39 PM Subject: [ ] Re: Gleevec and rashes?? Guest guest
Hi Ray-- My husband is now on Sprycel, but was on Gleevec. And, yep--in the beginning, it was rash city!! He just tried creams and lotions and never took anything for it. It sometimes kept him up at night since it was itchy, but once his body worked through the first month or two the rashing went away. He had it on his scalp I remember and that drove him crazy! But it did end up going away, so tell Beth to try and hang in there.... Good luck-- Cevera (wife of , dx 07-2006. Currently on 140mg Sprycel daily). @...: monkeyfun_16901@...: Wed, 21 Nov 2007 17:29:29 +0000Subject: [ ] Gleevec and rashes?? Guest guest
The rashes are just one of those things -- just one of those crazy old Gleevec things -- you learn to live with and manage, with the help of other drugs. My doc gave me a prescription for Valtrex, which helps nip these things in the bud, and Neurontin to prevent this horrible condition called postherpetic trigeminal neuralgia after an outbreak has passed. I'm prone to outbreaks in the mouth and throat, a shingles kind of thing. Others get them on the outside. Either way it's a darn nuisance. My guess is she may have a flurry of side effects that may well pass once her body adapts to Gleevec. @...: monkeyfun_16901@...: Wed, 21 Nov 2007 17:29:29 +0000Subject: [ ] Gleevec and rashes?? Guest guest
I had a similiar rash while on Gleevec and the Dermatologist reccomended Selsun Blue shampoo to be used as a body wash, lather up on affected areas and leave on in shower for about 5 minutes and rinse off. After about 3 days no more problems.
