Guest guest
Hi Ray, It's great to hear how well Beth is doing. Has she tried Imodium for the diarreah? I find it works perfectly for me but some have had to get stronger, prescription anti-diarreah medication. Either way, she should be able to control it with one or the other. Guest guest
dear ray: i took an imodium every morning. my experience with gleevec first year, side effects came and went. they gave me a rest from gleevec occasionally. i found after a few years on gleevec, it built up such a toxicity in me that the side effects i had previously were magnified going into years 2-4. the fifth and final year i just told my doctor i had to try something else. meds during 2-4 to counteract the side effects include: blood pressure meds, stomach meds, pain meds, diuretics meds. you have to watch individually how the meds are affecting you. tell the doctor and if that doctor won't listen tell another, make sure they chart it for you. having " the runs " all the time is fatigue enough. taking a preventative for me worked a whole lot better than trying to play catch up. ann grimm dxd 10.2003 gleevec 03-07 sprycel 2008 [ ] Update on Beth Hi, folks I have been reading these posts allmost every day but not posting much. As you recall Beth was diagnosed back in Oct. Initially after starting gleevec she had some issues with nuetropenia but that has resolved and may have been a residual effect of having been on hydroxuria for a couple weeks. Since then life has been very good. Beth is working her full time schedule. She finds she can avoid nause by drinking milk with her 400mg. dose of gleevec. She does seem to fatique easier. The most annoying side effect so far has been diahrea. She has come to think that eating chocolate makes it worse. Any others out there with this same issue? Does the diahrea go away after a bit? With so little side effects we have no complaints but if anyone has advice on dealing with the diahrea we sure would like to hear from you. Thanks so much for being there. It's a great source of comfort for us to read all the posts. Ray
