Guest guest
Aloha, Being on the ocean a lot (I am in Kona, HI, right now) I I wondered about the effects of the sun, when I restarted diving a couple of months afer dx. Beside the usual warnings the only thing I got from the dr is that gleevec may inhibit melanin and therefore make us more sensitive. So far I had no problems, I tan as much, or as little (I have viking ancestors) as before. I do have puffy eyes once in a while but it is moderate and I don't think it is related with the sun, although sun cream in the eyes may do it. Because of my fair skin I was already careful before dx and I just keep doing the same. I am on a 400mg/day dosage. Marcos. Guest guest
Hey all, Well I am the opposite of Marcos- no Vikings in my family- and initially when I started gleevec I lost color in my hands and feet- usuallyI am a nice bronze color all year round- smile. It is my understanding that Gleevec can make you more sensitive to the sun but I though the puffy eyes was the result of periorbital edema- a common side eefect of gleevec with no relation to sun exposure. I try to sleep sort of sitting up. It seems when I stay well hydrated they are less puffy- also the longer I am on gleevec the less puffy they seem - at one point my upper lids were so puffy they arched my eyebrows like Jack Nicholson in as the Joker in the Batman movie. Now I just have some swelling under my eyes like maybe I didn't sleep enough. In case I forget- Happy Holidays to you all- whatever you observe. May you all either join Zavie's zero club or maintain your zero club status in the new year. I wish each of you health, happiness and laughter.
