It absolutely amazes me because, before Gleevac, I was on Interferon, I drug I self injected every night. The side effects were horrendous, memory loss, extreme fatigue, loss of taste, smell, eyesight was effected. Getting off the couch was sometimes impossible for days on end. Loss of interest in family, friends, conversation. Just wanted to curl up in bed in the dark.Was on medication for depression, lost my hair, Did work but many times had to come home because I just couldn't cope standing up. Then I was approved for Gleevac and my whole life changed, my energy surged, I couldn't wait to get out of bed in the morning, I became alive again. My whole life changed, I'm back to being me. I've been on Gleevac now for 4yrs, and yes I've hit the odd speed bump but nothing I can't cope with. I guess where I'm going is that if Gleevac isn't right for you and you can get one of these other new drugs, I say go for it, because every drug isn't for every person and if there's something better you should fight for it.I feel for the people that struggle on Gleevac cos I know how horrible it was for me on Interferon and I wish every one could feel as great as I do now, so whatever drug it takes, fight for it.
