Guest guest
Hi Skip, you should ask to see a dietician at your hospital. I would certainly lower the amount of red meat in your weekly diet. Know that there are two sources and types of iron, the one that comes from meat is more absorbed than the one that comes from veggies, legumes and cereals. The lower level of iron is in fruits, greens, and dairies. Adopting more a vegetarian diet, at least for a while, would seem good for you. Drinking tea or coffee are not good for the absorbtion of iron, so maybe try to drink a cup of green tea after meals. It's the same for dairy products (milk, yogurt, cheese, cream, butter), they are low in iron and they lower it's absorption. all my best, myriam On Fri, 19 Oct 2007 04:55:07 -0700 (PDT), " Skip Duffie " <skipd_2002@...> said: > Good Morning all... > It is a beautiful day here today again. > I was wondering if anyone can point me to a good > reference (book or web page) that may contain a list > of foods low LOW in Iron. Guest guest
Skip- Wow this gives me real hope- I mean you were dx in 1978. I was thinking I would be happy if I could be part of the 90% who are living past 5 years. Is there a secret? Do you do any alternative stuff- acupuncture, meditation? You may have mentioned this on previous posts but if I may ask, how old were you when you were diagnosed? Guest guest
Hello China I am sure you will live and be happy much much longer that I. The new meds are coming along so fast you will have many many choices. No I have nothing special I did or did not do.. I was 38 and had kids in school new to me house that needed a lot of work. I had and have a strong belief in God and though what will be will be, other than that nothing. but you can read my page that Zavie and Kay (both have been very kind to me) asked me put up so those of us, that have low blood and platelet counts could follow and not get upset if their count take a dive. My only problem is from so many transfusions my ferritin count is quite high, and I am looking for a low iron diet which I hope to speak with someone soon as there is nothing on the net I can find. You can read my story and counts at http://easyskip.tripod.com I feel very good not ill from my meds at all, I am a very lucky person. if I have anyting I guess the quote from the Little Prince says it all..
