Thanks, I am only 36, and though my teeth weren't great before, I just went

to the dentist and I have teeth cracking now. Probably just the stress of

having to deal with CML, but just the thought of the dentist bills are

overwhelming, and probably causing more teeth to crack! :)

Hi Tammy,

No there is no proof that Gleevec affects teeth. At least nothing

that I've seen. My theory over the years has been that it has

usually been " older " people who have complained about problems with

their teeth and often " older " people in general do have problems with

their teeth.

I've been on Gleevec for 6 years and have never had so much as a

cavity. I never floss and only get a cleaning once a year but my

teeth are in perfect shape. I'm also only 37.

My mother on the other hand, has had no end of grief with her teeth

and eventually had them all removed because they were in such bad

shape. She's perfectly healthy and not on any drugs but she was in

her 50's when her problems started so I personally think that age has

a lot to do with dental health. Others have said that they think

Gleevec does cause problems though so who knows. I've never seen

anything in any medical journals to support it though.

Hi Tracey,

I'm reading the teeth issue with interest. I've almost always had some teeth

problems but nothing like I've had since diagnosis. I'm on Sprycel now so I

don't think it's Gleevec but possibly cml itself. I'm 62 so you're right that

the age thing does get in the way. I do think there might be something to this

though. Not that it matters except that I have to be even more diligent about

cleaning, flossing, etc. Good for you that you've been blessed with strong

teeth!
